Rocket League made the headlines when it was first released with its innovative idea and fun gameplay. After Epic Games made it free for everyone, it became even more popular and more people started playing the game. Moreover, Epic increased its player base by enabling cross platform support. As the gamer base grew, players started enjoying the game with their friends online but is that the only way to play the game or can you play Rocket League split screen?

Back in the day, players used to head over to their friends’ houses or go to internet cafes to play games together but once the internet became more available for mass usage, online gaming gained popularity. However, we still sometimes play games with our friends on the same screen and that is called “split screen” in gaming. Does Rocket League support split screen gameplay, or do you have to play it online with your friend on two different devices to team up with your friend? Here is everything you need to know about it!

    Is Rocket League split screen?

Yes, Rocket League can be played in split-screen mode. It has the option for you and your friends to play together on the same screen. Playing together like this is fun because it brings back the old-school gaming vibes where everyone's in the same room, laughing and shouting over the game.

Split screen in Rocket League is a cool feature that makes the game even better when you're playing with friends or family at home. It’s a nod to the times when gaming was all about being in the same place at the same time, sharing every win and loss together.

Setting up split screen is a bit different on each type of device, like PCs, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. But don’t worry, we’ll walk you through how to get it started on each one so you won’t miss out on any fun.

How to enable Rocket League split screen on PC

For PC gamers, you'll need two game controllers since using a keyboard and mouse combo with a controller doesn't work here. That is an issue that many people brought up in the past but Epic Games has not released a new feature that makes it available. You can still enjoy the split screen feature if you have two controllers on your PC. In order to enable it, here is what to do:

    1. Plug in both controllers.
    2. Open Rocket League.
    3. On the main menu, the second player should press the right button on their controller. This could be the Options, Menu, or Start button, depending on your controller.
    4. Then, player two is in the game, ready to play any mode with you.

How to enable Rocket League split screen on Xbox

Just like any other console or PC, you obviously need two controllers to play Rocket League in split screen mod on your Xbox. Here is how to activate it:

    1. Make sure you have two controllers connected.
    2. Player two needs to sign in with their Xbox account (remember, guest accounts can't play online).
    3. Start Rocket League.
    4. Player two presses the Menu button on their controller.
    5. Now up to four people can play at once.
    6. Choose your game mode and start playing together.

How to enable Rocket League split screen on PlayStation

Rocket League is available on many different platforms, including PlayStation. You can enjoy online games on your PS but when a friend comes over, it is always nice to play games with them. You can split your screen into two different POVs to play Rocket League together and in order to do it, you need to follow these instructions:

    1. Turn on your PlayStation and start Rocket League.
    2. Use the second controller to log in by pressing the PlayStation button.
    3. Pick how to log in – you can start fresh, use an existing account, or jump right into Quick Play.
    4. After logging in, go back to Rocket League's main menu.
    5. Hit the Settings button on controller two to join the game.
    6. Now, player one picks the game mode, and you’re all set to play.

How to enable Rocket League split screen on Switch

On Nintendo Switch, there is a small twist that you need to take into consideration. There are two different options available for Switch users, you could either be using Joy-Con or a Pro Controller, and Epic Games has two different methods to make Rocket League split screen available for both users. Here is how to enable the feature on Nintendo Switch for Joy-Con and Pro Controller users:

If each player is using one Joy-Con:

    1. Open Rocket League.
    2. Player two presses the Minus Button (-).
    3. Log in or skip to use a temporary profile.
    4. Confirm your controllers by pressing the SL and SR buttons together.

For using two Joy-Cons or a Pro Controller:

    1. Start the game.
    2. Player two presses the Plus Button (+).
    3. Log in or skip.
    4. Confirm by pressing the L and R buttons at the same time.

After setting up, player two will join the game, ready for any offline or online mode. And if you’re playing on the TV, you can have up to 4 players join in for even more fun.

Rocket League’s split screen support takes us back to old days, and on the other hand, you can consider it as an extra feature that you can always use when you need it, it really does not have to change the way how you play. Whether you're on a PC, Xbox, PlayStation, or Switch, getting your game set up for more than one player is easy. Just grab an extra controller and follow a few simple steps depending on your device. You will be able to use this feature. Here are more Rocket League guides for you to check out:

When I’m not behind the keyboard, I’m watching Galatasaray, following the NBA, or pretending I’m still good at basketball. I also work full-time at AnyDesk, writing serious things in not-so-serious ways.
