How to log out and log in League of Legends?
Want to log out and log back into LoL? Here's how to do just that in a couple easy steps. In League of Legends, to log in and out seems like a simple enough of a task that wouldn’t require much looking into. However, as circumstances have the tendency to prove you wrong even in the simplest of situations, here’s a guide on how to log out and log in to League of Legends.
How to Log out of League of Legends
As you might already know by now, the League of Legends client doesn't always function properly. Sometimes, it refuses to update certain information, such as your name or elements like your loot. Fortunately, these issues are mostly resolved by a simple restart. Yet, at other times, you may encounter server-related problems and errors.
Logging out of League of Legends and then logging back into your account or another account on a different server could potentially help solve these issues. You can always uninstall and reinstall League of Legends, which is effective, but that's a waste of time and other resources. So, here's about three methods in which you can log out of League of Legends by.
Method 1: Sign out from the client
By far the most straightforward method—the intended way of logging out.
- Open the League of Legends client
- Once you’re loaded in, navigate to the “X” button on the top right corner of the client.
- A confirmation box will prompt you with two choices, “Exit” and “Sign Out,” choose “Sign Out.”
Method 2: Change your Riot password
This one isn’t as straightforward as the last one. Changing your password will effectively log you out from the client and any device that you’re generally logged on. It can come in handy if you were using a PC that isn’t yours to access or play League of Legends and forgot to log out; typically at a friend’s house or an internet cafe. You can change your Riot password by following these steps:
- Visit the official Riot Games website.
- If you haven’t already, sign in to your Riot Games account through clicking the “Sign In” button (usually) on the top right corner.
- Hover over your username where the “Sign In” button was located, and click on “Settings.”
- Navigate to the “Riot Account Sign-In” part of the page.
- Type in your current password.
- Add a new password.
- Confirm the new password.
Method 3: Delete the “Config” folder
Again, not strictly straightforward, and definitely not the intended way of logging out, but it works. This should be your last resort—apart from uninstalling and reinstalling the game—in logging out, as usually no circumstance would require you to seek methods other than the first two. To delete the “Config” folder, follow these steps:
- Open the “Run” dialog box (Windows Key+R).
- Type “AppData” and hit OK.
- Open the “Local” folder.
- Navigate to the “Riot Games’ folder.
- Open the “League of Legends” folder.
- Back up the “Config” folder by copying it somewhere else.
- Delete the original “Config” folder.
- Open the League of Legends client and wait for the game to repair (it shouldn’t take more than a couple of seconds).
How to Log in to League of Legends
There’s only one method to that, and it’s pretty simple. All you need to do is open League of Legends and type in your credentials. Occasionally, you’ll see that no matter how much you review your credentials and re-enter them, you just won’t be able to log in. This issue might not have to do with your credentials but the Riot Games servers, especially if you were logged out during server maintenance.
Unfortunately, there’s no solution for this but to wait it out. Server maintenance usually only takes a couple of hours. However, there’s a way to check when exactly the server is expected to go up again… You can do that by going to the official Riot Games Service Status website.
