We know little of Reyna’s pre-VALORANT past, save that she is a vampiric Radiant from Mexico who believes in the genetic superiority of her kind over humans. She’s so committed to this belief that she created a sanctuary for Radiant refugees to escape Kingdom Corp and its “experiments”, and became the protector and avenger of this “city”.

They say her hatred of technology and humanity stems from a disaster involving machines, though details of this incident are unknown.

Ultimately, Reyna joined VALORANT as a way to save the life of her little sister, Lucia. The exact cause of Lucia’s near-death state is a mystery, though many believe it involved that machine-related disaster, and Killjoy, for whom Reyna harbors intense hatred.

All we know for sure is that Reyna worked with VALORANT’s scientists, including Viper, to transfer some of her life energy into Lucia to keep her alive.

The procedure, however, was only partly effective. And so, Reyna relentlessly hunts down new enemies to absorb the life force of – all to save her sister’s life.

Reyna has a cut-throat, jaded view of the world, which causes concern among her fellow agents; given Lucia’s seemingly assured, imminent demise, they fear the ripple effect of the younger Mondragón’s death. Until that dark day arrives, Reyna forges on with her savage, single-minded quest, mercilessly consuming her enemies without hesitation, delighting in their misery.

Whether she was born this way, hardened by her experiences, or twisted by her vampiric Radiant powers is anyone’s guess.

Given how she regularly mentions being “hungry” for souls, or claims to be “starving”, it’s entirely possible that her aggressive nature and “want, take, have” mindset is indeed fueled by her soul-sucking abilities.

Thanks to time-traveling KAY/O, we know that Reyna becomes the leader of the Radiants in the upcoming Radiant War.

It’s unclear whether she begins the war itself, though knowing how close Lucia is to death’s door, and the uphill battle Reyna faces just to keep her alive, it’s easy to see how losing her little sister could cause Reyna to go full blood-rage mode. This is especially so if Lucia’s current state was caused by an accident with technology, as many believe.

What does Reyna’s Ultimate do?

Reyna's ult is an Empowerment ability type that sends her into a supercharged frenzy with a lot of buffs to power up your play.

The Ult is called Empress, and it buffs Reyna’s Equip speed, Reload speed, and Recovery speed by 25% each, and also increases her Fire rate by 15% too. Though its duration is limited to 30 seconds initially, getting a kill will renew that countdown.

As if that wasn’t enough, Reyna’s Ult also gives her unlimited uses of her soul orbs, the ability to cast Devour without using an orb, and it enhances her Dismiss ability to turn Reyna invisible, too.

How to play Reyna

Use Leer for aggressive entries

While attacking, take advantage of Leer as the only ability usable without a soul orb. Flash and dive into the fray, positioning yourself as the perfect entry fragger.

Reyna excels at swift entries, and her flash doesn't affect teammates. Remember to keep your gameplay unpredictable, occasionally shifting between roles like a lurker or taking up an Operator to surprise your opponents.

Beware of Leer's vulnerability

Be careful when using Leer, as skilled opponents can swiftly eliminate the floating orb, much like Sova's Recon Bolt. Avoid the mistake of casting Leer and rushing out in the open after it's destroyed.
