When you’re playing online games like Fortnite, nothing can be more frustrating than high ping. Ping is the measure of how long it takes your computer to communicate with the server the game is being hosted on. It’s measured by how long it takes for a message to “ping” the server and be returned to you. In Fortnite, and other games, you can see a live feed of your ping so you can make sure there’s no fluctuations or spikes while you play. Here’s how.

How to turn on ping in Fortnite

To turn on the ability to see your ping in Fortnite, you’ll need to head to the settings menu. It’s indicated by a small gear icon when you open your profile. Scroll across the options until you see “Game UI until you see “HUD Options” and “Latency Debug Stats.” Select the “On” option for Latency Debug Stats.

Next, go to the option just below the Latency Debug Stats, “Net Debug Stats.” Select “On” for this option as well. You’ve now successfully turned on the display of ping in Fortnite.

How is ping measured in Fortnite?

Ping is measured in milliseconds. A ping of 60 means it takes 60 milliseconds for your computer to send a message to the Fortnite servers and return a “ping” confirming the connection.

What’s a good ping to play Fortnite?

While the lower the ping, the better, in general, a ping of around 50-60 milliseconds is enough to competently play Fortnite. However, it’s possible to have just as good an experience in pings up to 100-150 milliseconds. General if your ping is beyond 200, you’ll really struggle to play Fortnite at all.

In general, your ping will be lower if you’re playing on a server closer to your current location. In the Settings menu where you enabled the viewing of ping, scroll up to “Language and Region.” Under the “Matchmaking Region” option, make sure you’re set to the region with the lowest milliseconds. This is set to “Auto” by default, but you can also switch region if you choose.
