VALORANT Outlaw gun
3 years and 7 months later. 13 new agents on top of the original 10. A whopping 746 weapon skins. 13 maps. And now… Riot has at last broken entirely new ground with the update to end all updates. Yes, we’re here to barely contain our excitement as we explore VALORANT’s new gun – the Outlaw!
The first new weapon since the game was released in June 2020 is nothing short of a cause for celebration as far as we’re concerned 🥳
The Outlaw release
Rumors began swirling from October 2023 that a new sniper would soon be released. Then, on December 19, 2023, ValorLeaks confirmed we’d only have to wait until Episode 8, Act 1.
And, as promised, on January 9, 2024, VALORANT delivered an all-new gun, the Outlaw.
Designed as a mid-way point between the Marshal and the Operator (in terms of power and price, the Outlaw is here to give players extra flexibility in their choice of sniper rifle for early and eco rounds.
But will the new Outlaw change the gun meta forever, or is it nothing more than a flashy firework destined for brief, blink-and-miss-it excitement? We’ll see…
“We felt there was a gap in the current sniper offerings for players, and we were excited to get to work on exploring some options. And with the Outlaw, we believe we’ve found the right fit..” Riot’s developers on the new Outlaw rifle.
Rifle tour: the nuts and bolts
The Outlaw is a double-barreled semi-automatic sniper rifle. Yes, that means it holds two bullets at a time, which gives it a much faster fire rate than both the Operator and the Marshal.
But that’s not its only tactical advantage. VALORANT’s new sniper also doesn’t zoom out after each shot, which opens up a world of new possibilities for crispy sharpshooters to pop twice as many heads in half as much time.
Of course, firing two bullets like that does have a drawback – can you guess what it is?
Yep, reload speed. Two barrels + two bullets = nearly twice as long to reload from empty. But hey, you don’t have to use both barrels. Use the Outlaw like any other sniper and reload it after each shot and you’ll have a much faster reload speed.
The Outlaw has different sounds for a full and partial reload, so players can keep their eyes on the prize, not the mag count, both when using and countering the Outlaw.
Oh, and the bullets for this new rifle are also more like slugs than bullets, which means one thing – be ready for this beast to kick like a mule! It’s especially effective against enemies weaning Light Armor, thanks to its high damage and two-shot capabilities.

Outlaw skins
To celebrate the launch of the Outlaw, Riot has added a new Throwback Bundle to the VALORANT store.
For 2,320 VP, you can bag two new skins for the Outlaw – the Prism/Reloaded skin and the Ego skin – each with three available variants.
These skins may not have any custom animations, VFX, or fancy finishers to boast of, but they’re a nice homage to the 2020 days of VALORANT when we last experienced new guns. And they’re the only way to customize your Outlaw beyond the basics until Riot releases new skins, so what’s stopping you?!
“The Outlaw has a blend of elements from both the Marshal and Operator while introducing a few new elements of its own. With that in mind, we wanted to ensure that all of the sniper rifles have their own unique strengths and weaknesses.”
Best paired with…
By now you must be wondering how best to try out VALORANT’s new gun. Well, we’re here to tell you just that!
If you’re looking for the best agent to pair with the Outlaw, we’d suggest Jett or Chamber…
Jett’s always been a machine with the Op, and the Outlaw is no different. It’s business as usual for the Queen of the Winds – lots of Updrafts and Tailwinds to snipe from sneaky off-angles and escape Scott-free when you whiff a shot.
Thanks to Chamber’s Rendezvous ability, he’ll always be a top choice for snipers. When weighing in the Outlaw’s longer reload for those times when you’ve just gotta unload both barrels, teleporting out of dodge will help you get the most out of the Outlaw time after time. Chamber mains can even switch to his Headhunter pistol real fast when maining the Outlaw. It really is the perfect weapon for him.
And if you’re wondering which map to take this new sniper for a spin on, we’d suggest Breeze, Ascent, or Icebox.
Breeze is a great bet thanks to its wide, open design, and abundance of angles to pop heads on whether you’re on attack or defense.
Ascent was basically made for talented sniper users to thrive on, and Outlaw players should be able to rake in the picks in the battles for Mid.
Icebox is another map that has long angles, including an important Mid area to fight for. The Outlaw will shine on the snowy map there as well... in the right hands of course.
Let’s wrap this up…
And there you have it, that’s all we’ve got about VALORANT’s new gun, the Outlaw.
Riot claims that their philosophy for weapons in VALORANT has always been to ensure “every weapon should have a reason to be purchased” – so far, we think this new addition to the armory fits that bill.
The real question is, what do you think of new gun on the block, the Outlaw?
