What is Sage’s real name in VALORANT?
What is Sage’s Real Name in the VALORANT Lore?
Sage’s real name is actually Wei Ling Ying, not Sage! She originates from China and her name supports that. She is also listed as going under the alias of "The Balm of Shaanxi" in the VALORANT lore as well.
A lot of players think that the agents in VALORANT use their real names, but a quick look into the VALORANT lore and the VALORANT Protocol will show us that none of these agents actually do, and names such as Sage, Harbor, and Viper aren’t actually birth names - as cool as they would be.
Why do agents use code names in the VALORANT Lore?
Whilst we don’t know why every agent chose their code name, we do know that every agent uses one in VALORANT. This is because in the VALORANT Protocol, agents need code names, like superheroes need superhero names.
It wouldn’t be much help if Superman was always called Clark Kent, or Batman called Bruce Wayne, so the same goes for our favorite Sentinel of Wei Ling Ying as Sage - it is much easier to use code names and titles in the field, so that is what the agents go by.
How do we know Sage’s Real Name?
We know that every agent uses a code name due to Fade releasing a dossier on the VALORANT Protocol when she was released into the game, which told us a lot about every agent in the game up until that point.
This included finding out details about backstories of agents, as well as every single agent’s full real name - apart from Omen’s, as he doesn’t even know his.
This included agents such as Viper being exposed as Sabine Callas, and her backstory with Omen and Sage being revealed in the mean time!
The question remains that whilst we know the trio have known each other long before the VALORANT Protocol, and that Sage and Viper already knew each other’s real names as Wei Ling Ying and Sabine Callas, what about Omen? He is the mystery that Riot Games have failed to uncover as of yet, but knowing Sage’s and Viper’s real names is a start.
