VALORANT is full of Agents from all around the world. You might find a smoker from the United States and a Duelist from South Korea; the variety is spread across the globe. There is also an Agent from the Philippines that not everybody knows. Who is the VALORANT Filipino character? Let’s take a closer look at it together!

Who is the Filipino character in VALORANT?

The Filipino character in VALORANT is Neon, the Duelist, who is known for being very fast and has the ability to slide on any map. Neon is from the Philippines, and they are the only Filipino character in the game. Of course, the Neon voice actor in VALORANT is from the Philippines, named Vanille Velasquez. Even though they speak fluent English, Neon’s voice actor had to be from the Philippines.

VALORANT Filipino character abilities

“Filipino Agent, Neon, surges forward at shocking speeds, discharging bursts of bioelectric radiance as fast as their body generates it. She races ahead to catch enemies off guard, then strikes them down quicker than lightning,” reads Neon’s official description.

In essence, the VALORANT Filipino character is faster than other Agents, and their skill set is based on running, sliding, etc. Neon's abilities are all centered around their speed and electricity. Their Fast Lane ability allows them to sprint forward, leaving a trail of electricity that damages enemies. Their Slide ability allows them to slide across the ground, gaining a speed boost and leaving a trail of electricity. Neon’s Relay ability allows them to send a bolt of electricity that bounces between enemies, damaging them each time. And their Ultimate ability, Overdrive, allows them to move and fire at super speed for a short period of time. Here is a closer look at Neon abilities in the game:

  • Relay Bolt “Q” - INSTANTLY throw an energy bolt that bounces once. Upon hitting each surface, the bolt electrifies the ground below with a concussive blast.
  • High Gear “E” - INSTANTLY channel Neon’s power for increased speed. When charged, ALT FIRE to trigger an electric slide. Slide charge resets every two kills.
  • Fast Lane “C” - FIRE two energy lines forward on the ground that extend a short distance or until they hit a surface. The lines rise into walls of static electricity that block vision and damage enemies passing through them.
  • Overdrive “X” - Unleash Neon’s full power and speed for a short duration. FIRE to channel the power into a deadly lightning beam with high movement accuracy. The duration resets on each kill.

Neon's abilities have made them a force to be reckoned with in VALORANT. Their speed and mobility allow them to take down enemies quickly, and their electricity abilities can be used to flush out defenders and create openings for their team. She has quickly become a staple in competitive play, and their impact on the game has been significant from time to time.

Neon is just exceptional on maps like Fracture, Icebox, and Lotus, where their special skills may be fully used. These maps are the ideal playground for Neon's enhanced movement speed and sliding ability because they have many corners and long-distance pathways. Players can use the map's design to outmaneuver and outsmart their opponents using their quick and agile kit. Neon is a fantastic option for players who want to make the most of these maps, whether you're seeking to make aggressive plays or give important information to your squad. Neon’s slide and fast-paced nature are great for disrupting the opponent’s crosshair placement too. It becomes very hard to shoot the Agent once they start running around.

However, Neon has not been the most popular pick at the highest level in 2022. For example, in VCT 2023 Masters Tokyo, the agent only had an 8.70% pick rate, and they were one of the least picked agents. Lotus and Fracture are two of the maps that the Agent was picked, and none of the teams preferred them in any other map. Besides, Neon had a 12% pick rate during the group stage, but then, as the tournament continued, the number dropped to 8.70%.

Neon’s story

Born and raised in Manila, the Philippines, Tala Nicole Dimaapi Valdez is a Radiant, whose bioelectricity has knit itself into the radianite fabric of Earth. They were hired by the VALORANT Protocol as part of their Omega Project, expressly to use their electromagnetic powers as they attempted to power an Alpha-Omega teleporter. She was a young but former veteran at K-SEC. Valdez left their family to join the Protocol and accepted a post there as their nineteenth agent, "Neon." They are now working to help create a reliable connection that will finally permit the VP to travel to Omega Earth.

Are there any other Filipino characters in VALORANT?

No, Neon is the only Filipino character in VALORANT, and Riot Games haven’t released another Agent from the country yet. However, this might change in the upcoming patches as VALORANT is pretty famous in the country, and there is a huge player base over there. Riot may use this to roll out another Filipino character for the people.

Neon is a powerful and exciting new addition to VALORANT. Their abilities are all very unique, and they have quickly become a fan favorite among Filipino players. Their impact on the game has been significant, and they will surely be a force to be reckoned with in competitive play for years to come.
