Everything You Need to Know About Ekko in League of Legends
The timewinder is one of the coolest champions to come out of Zaun in League of Legends, but he has a lot to him. So here is everything you need to know about Ekko in League of Legends, so you can become a master!Ekko is one of the most interesting assassins in the whole of League of Legends, mainly because his kit is completely different to other assassins.
Whilst he does have the one-shot potential of other assassins, he can also skirmish during extended trades very well, which not many other assassins can actually do. Champions such as Zed and Leblanc want to use their combo and burst you down, whereas Ekko doesn’t mind if the fight goes a bit longer.
To fully understand why this is, we recommend reading through and finding out everything you need to know about Ekko, as well as some bonus lore facts for you too!
Ekko’s abilities in League of Legends
Passive: Z-Drive Resonance
Ekko has the basic three-hit passive that a lot of champions have in League of Legends, so all of his auto attacks and abilities grant one stack of the passive on any target they hit. This can also stack on multiple targets simultaneously.
On the third hit, the stacks are consumed and Ekko does up to 140 damage plus 90% of his bonus AP has magic damage.
If you are playing Ekko in the Jungle, this passive does 300% to monsters, making Ekko’s clear incredibly fast.
This does have a cooldown of a few seconds between uses on a target, so you cannot just spam it.
Ekko also gets bonus movement speed, up to 80% for up to 3 seconds when he explodes his passive on a target, and whilst it doesn’t any more, it actually used to slow enemies when triggered too!
Q: Timewinder
Ekko throws forward a disc-shaped temporal grenade, which does AOE damage to targets that are hit, which slows down when it hits a target.
It will then expand slightly and return after slowing any enemies it hits, dealing similar amounts of damage.
The best part about this ability is that it can stack Ekko’s passive twice, once when it hits the target on the way out, and once when it hits the target returning to Ekko.
W: Parallel Convergence
The passive of Ekko’s W means that Ekko’s basic attacks deal bonus AP damage equivalent to 3% of the targets missing health, plus an extra 3% for every 100 AP Ekko has. This only applies to targets below 30% HP.
This means Ekko does more damage with his auto attacks on low HP targets, making it really good for assassinating targets that have just survived his burst.
This ability also has an active, which throws a small ball to a location, which explodes when it lands into a large sphere. This whole process takes just under 4 seconds, so make sure you time it right if you are trying to gank!
The W then slows enemies by 40% whilst inside, and if Ekko gets inside of it, it will explode, stunning any enemies inside for 2.25 seconds, and giving Ekko a 2 second shield, which is up to 180 and 150% of his bonus AP.
This means he can be really tough to kill when diving the enemy backline, giving him a surprising amount of shielding!
E: Phase Dive
Ekko dashes in whatever direction the player chooses, and then his next basic attack for 3 seconds launches him at the enemy, acting as a Flash or a Blink, dealing bonus magic damage.
This also resets his auto attacks, so Ekko can auto, E, auto. Another interesting interaction is that Ekko can cast any of his other abilities during the dash forward, meaning Ekko can E then Q to allow his Q to get further range on it!
Using these two together is your bread-and-butter combination, as hitting one part of Q, his E, and then an auto attack, or the second part of the Q will explode his passive.
R: Chronobreak
Whenever Ekko has his ultimate up, he will have a clone following exactly 4 seconds behind him, which he can return to when he decides to cast his ultimate ability.
Ekko dashes back to his afterimage, which will be four seconds behind him, as we said, but he is also healed for up to 200 HP plus 175% of his bonus AP, as well as 3% for every 1% of the the health he has lost in the past 4 seconds.
This all adds up to be a very healthy heal, and he is untargetable and invulnerable whilst casting his ultimate.
This is great for diving enemies and getting out safely, or even dodging crowd control that the enemy are using to try and lock you down.
When was Ekko released in League of Legends?
The Boy who Shattered Time was released to shatter the Rift in patch 5.10, which was on May 28, 2015, also coming out alongside the Karma gameplay update.
His release skin was Sandstorm Ekko, costing a measly 975 RP, which at the time was expensive!
Where is Ekko from in League of Legends?
Ekko originates from Zaun, and we saw him as a child in the TV show Arcane on Netflix, alongside Vi and Jinx, although he seems to be quite a lot younger than them.
We then see him grown up in the second half of the series, leading a gang called the Firelights. Ekko is still in Zaun as we know due to Arcane, but since Riot Games have announced that Arcane is officially canon in League of Legends, Ekko has had this confirmed for us.
Ekko’s Age in League of Legends
Ekko was born in 979 AN, which places him at 18 years of age, and to lead the Firelights at such a young age says a lot about how fast he had to grow up in Zaun.
Ekko’s Voice Actor in League of Legends
Ekko is voiced by Antony Del Rio in League of Legends, but is actually voiced by Reed Shannon in Legends of Runeterra, CONV/RGENCE, True Genius, and Arcane!
As for the younger version of Ekko in Arcane, he is voiced by Miles Brown.
Ekko is awesome, but he might not be for you, and if Zaun is for you, we have guides for champions from Zaun, but also from elsewhere in Runeterra if you want to explore!
