Akali is the Rogue Assassin and actually has one of the most unique playing styles ever since she was reworked, and whilst her learning curve is steep, her skill expression and ceiling is also very high. This means that a great Akali player can stomp Mid Lane every game and carry all the time.

If you want to become a player like this and pick up our lovable energy-using AP Assassin, then keep reading to find out everything you need to know about Akali in League of Legends.

Akali’s abilities in League of Legends

Passive: Assassin’s Mark

Whenever Akali damages an enemy champion with an ability she forms a ring around them for 4 seconds. She also gains up to 60% movement speed, depending on her level, when she is actually running away from the center of the ring.

The center is normally the enemy champion, but this bizarre playstyle will make sense soon. When Akali exits the ring she gets an empowered auto attack for 4 seconds, which has double the range of her regular auto attacks and deals bonus damage, scaling with both AD and AP.

Q: Five Point Strike

Akali throws 5 kunais in a small cone in front of her, which deals magic dsamage and slows enemies by 50% for half a second. This uses a lot of energy, 110 at level one, but decreasing to 70 at level 5 when fully upgraded.

This is the bread and butter waveclear of Akali’s kit, but whilst it doesn’t do a load of damage, it has a cooldown of 1.5s.

Take care with your energy, however, especially early on in the game, as this ability costs 110 energy, and Akali only has 200, regenerating 5 every second.

W: Twilight Shroud

Akali instantly drops a large donut-shaped cloud around her, which restores 100 energy almost instantly, and increases her maximum energy to 300 for the duration. She also gains decaying movement speed for two seconds, whilst the ring expands for 5 seconds.

Akali is invisible whilst entering the ring, even in close proximity to enemy champions. The only exception is when she is dashing or using an ability or basic attack.

Akali’s Shroud used to give true stealth, which meant Akali could tower dive an enemy and the tower wouldn’t be able to see her if she was in her Shroud!

We recommend using this a lot in lane to keep your energy high, especially against a champion that wants to shove you under tower, this way you won’t lose as much farm to your own tower.

E: Shuriken Flip

Akali flips backward, but also throws a shuriken forward, which she can recast to go flying towards the target if the shuriken hits something. Akali can also flip to her Shroud if the shuriken hits that rather than an enemy.

The dash in Shuriken Flip does a surprising amount of damage when she lands and hits her target, dealing up to 315 AP damage at max rank, scaling with 60% of her AD and 85% of her AP.

A good Akali realises that her W and her Ultimate can be used during this dash, so repositioning mid-fight by flying through the air is a great tactic to get onto the enemy backline or avoid crowd control.

R: Perfect Execution

For her ultimate ability, Akali targets an enemy, dashing over them dealing magic damage that scales with both AD and AP, giving her another cast of her ultimate after 2.5s.

The second cast of Perfect Execution is a skillshot, rather than the point-and-click of the first part, but this also does increased damage to enemies based on their missing health.

You want to use the first part of your ultimate to get onto enemies, hit them with your E and then full combo, before finally finishing them off with missing health damage with the second part of your ultimate.

Akali was released onto Summoner’s Rift in Patch 1.0.0.85, which was on May 11, 2010. She came with Stinger Akali and Crimson Akali, the start of her many skins!

She received her rework in Patch 8.15, which was August 1, 2018. This completely reworked her looks and her kit, and at the time she was incredibly broken, especially with her true stealth.

Where is Akali from in League of Legends?

Akali is a born and bred Ionian, being born in the Temple of Thanjuul in Ionia. She still resides there and alongside her links with Kennen, Shen and even Zed, she was an important member of the Kinkou Order, especially under the rebuild.

Akali was born in 977 AN, which places her age at 20 years old. She is a lot younger than a lot of other champions who she meets in her lore, and whilst she is young, her power is great for such an age.

Champions such as Shen and Zed recognised this, and see the potential that the young 20 year old assassin has.

The voice actress of Akali is Krizia Bajos, for her rework, whilst it used to be Laura Bailey before Akali received her VGU. Another important voice for Akali is Soyeon from (G)I-DLE, who is the singer for K/DA Akali in the huge hit band K/DA.

Akali is not the only champion in League of Legends, and as such we have guides for a lot of the other champions you can take to the rift. Some of these are:

Hi, my name is Eddie, I am a full-time writer and short-form video editor, with a degree in Esports! My main games are VALORANT and League of Legends, so you could say that I am at the beck and call of Riot Games! I have worked previously for a few different websites, doing various roles, such as writing, editing, and even voiceovers, but here at THESPIKE, I am an out-and-out article writer, so I can really get as much content out as I can! I graduated with my Esports degree with a 2:1, and a desire to keep going, so this was a perfect step for me, but I still can't get enough of League of Legends when I'm free.
