Can you play Fortnite on PS3?
With over 500 MILLION registered users and 231 million active monthly players, Fortnite is still one of the most popular online games on the planet. Everyone’s favorite battle royale just never goes out of style… but some chatter still won’t die down. You know what we’re talking about…
Once and for all, we’re here to lay to rest those ever-present rumors that get people wondering if they can play Fortnite on PS3.
So… can PS3 play Fortnite?
The rumor mill gets fired up about this every time some jobsworth with nothing better to do slaps a video on YouTube claiming a way to play Fortnite on PS3.
Well, we’re sorry to tell you friend, that it’s as much clickbaity rubbish now as it ever was.
No, you can’t play Fortnite on PS3 or any other console of that generation (sorry Xbox 360, that means you too). No, you won’t ever be able to play Fortnite on PS3. And no, you never could (and neither could anyone else!).
Sorry to say, but anyone claiming otherwise is absolutely yankin’ your chain. Their content is selling a trash sandwich – don’t buy it.
But why can't you play Fortnite on PS3?
You can’t play Fortnite on PS3 for the same reason it won’t run on Xbox 360 or the Nintendo Wii – those older generation consoles just don’t have the graphic capabilities or processing power for it.
The PlayStation 3 has only 256MB of VRAM, which is simply not enough to render Fornite at even 60 FPS (the minimum you’d need to play it well).
Fortnite may not be super resource-hungry by modern standards, but to older-generation consoles, it’s still miles beyond their reach. That’s why anyone who claims to have a way to get Fortnite to play on PS3 is full of it – older 7th gen consoles like PlayStation 3 just don’t have the technical oomph to support the game.
What platforms can play Fortnite then?
You can play Fortnite on any PS4 or PS5 platform. Yes, that includes the original PlayStation 4, the PS4 Pro, and the PS4 Slim consoles.
Likewise, any similar 8th generation console from Xbox or Nintendo (if you’ve got an Xbox One and newer, or a Switch or Switch Lite, you’re also good to go!).
Heck, you can even play Fortnite on an Android phone if you’ve got at least 4GB of RAM and a supported GPU. (yep, smartphones are officially more advanced than a PS3 now!)
