How else can you hope to conquer the battle royale extravaganzas of Warzone 2 without access to the best weapon configurations? Oh, sure, you could hope to loot the perfect gear for the job, but why leave your fate up to chance like that when there’s a better option? Enter the loadout…

In this guide, we’ll give you the full lowdown on loadouts. No fuss, no muss (just all the good stuffs)...

So what are custom loadouts?

When you hit military level 4, you unlock the Gunsmith, and with it access to customize your favorite weapons with up to 5 attachments. But the phrase “loadouts” goes beyond weapons alone, it also includes the perks and equipment you take into battle.

Pay special attention to the primary weapon loadout you customize, because that’s going to be the easiest weapon you can get hold of in a battle royale match.

Pro tip: Rename your main loadout to make it even easier to find when you’re in the middle of a game.

Check out our guide on the best loadouts for Warzone 2 here.

And how do you use loadouts in a match?

When you drop into a fresh match in Warzone 2, you don’t drop in with your favorite weapons to hand. You’ll have to earn or buy your loadout, and there’s two ways you can do each…

Strongholds and Black Sites

It’s probably the most reliable way of getting to use your loadout in Warzone 2… but that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy!

At the start of each match, 3 Stronghold keys spawn at random locations across the map. Find one of those keys, and use it to unlock a Stronghold… then the tough bit begins. You’ll have to clear the Stronghold of all its AI enemies and defuse its bomb, likely while fighting off other players, too.

When you or your squad clears the Stronghold, you’ll ALL be rewarded with your loadout. But only the first squad to clear the Stronghold can snag the Black Site key for more juicy rewards.

This makes Stronghold challenges easily one of the best ways to get your loadout when playing Warzone 2.

Buy a Loadout Drop grenade

If you can find and safely use a Buy Station without painting it an unfortunate new shade of brain, you can snag yourself a cheeky grenade that calls in an airdrop to equip you and your squad with your custom loadouts.

The price varies depending on your squad size though, and can set you back a pretty penny…

Single operator

$8,000

Two operators

$16,000

Three operators

$24,000

Four operators

$32,000

Be wary too, as the red smoke that signals these drops will absolutely advertise your location to your enemies (which could be a good thing, if you’re ready to carve them up with your badass loadout!).

Tap a supply drop

If buying a loadout drop grenade seems too pricey, you could always wait for the free-for-all loadout drop event that comes in the middle of a match.

A plane will parachute in a string of free loadout drops, marked by yellow crates on your map, which is a great way to get your custom loadout… if you’re up for a fight. Since they’re both free and open for any player to claim, these loadout drops are highly contested resources.

Buy custom weapons

A full loadout is always ideal, but even the primary weapon of your chosen loadout can make a massive difference in keeping you alive where other operators fall.

Get yourself to a Buy Station and drop $2,500 to kit yourself out with the main weapon of your loadout (your squad can pay for themselves!).

Are custom loadouts really worth the risk?

It’s up to you to weigh the risk in the balance really.

If you’re a demon with the default pistol and a Jack-of-all-weapons kind of player, then maybe not. You might be better off using your mad skills to pick off enemies who give their position away and make easy targets of themselves while trying to gear up with their precious loadouts.

If you can get by with just looting, go for it.

But if you’re like most of us, you’ll play best with a specific weapon and the right perks, and you’ll want to do everything you can to get that weapon in your hands and those perks on your side every match.

In which case, getting your loadout isn’t just worth the risk. It should be your priority.

Just don’t get unalived in the process of getting it…

How do loadouts work in DMZ?

Custom loadouts work totally differently if you’re playing Warzone 2’s DMZ mode. Take on this loot-focused, AI-filled warzone challenge and you’ll spawn with your chosen loadout primed and ready to kick butt.

DMZ also features a “Contraband Stash”, which includes primary weapons you looted from enemies and “carried out” of the DMZ by successfully exfiltrating.

Keep in mind though that if you die in DMZ before exfiltrating, any primary weapon loadout you took in will be temporarily unavailable for a couple of hours.
