Heading into the North America Last Chance Qualifier
After it was announced a few days ago that ORDER and Ex-Chiefs would not be able to attend VCT 2021 - North America Last Chance Qualifier due to travel restrictions, Riot have confirmed a new double elimination format and much more in their update article.
The eight participating teams are now:
- 100 Thieves
- Version1
- FaZe Clan
- XSET
- Luminosity Gaming
- Rise
- Cloud9 Blue
- Gen.G Esports
When the details for the NA LCQ first came out, community members were not pleased with the proposed single elimination format for the early stages. With double elimination the accepted standard for most major competitions, people feared a single elimination system would cause promising North American teams’ runs to end early.
Fortunately, Riot has quelled these concerns by describing the new double elimination bracket with the following opening schedule (full schedule here):
- 12th October - starts at 12 pm PT
- 100 Thieves vs Gen.G Esports (Match 1)
- XSET vs Luminosity Gaming (Match 2)
- Match 1 winner vs Match 2 winner
- 13th October - starts at 12 pm PT
- FaZe Clan vs Rise (Match 3)
- Version1 vs Cloud9 Blue (Match 4)
- Match 3 winner vs Match 4 winner
- 14th October - starts at 12 pm PT
- Match 1 loser vs Match 2 loser
- Match 3 loser vs Match 4 loser
All matches at the tournament will be best of threes, with the exception of the grand finals, which will be a best of five. You can find the complete bracket and schedule on our VCT 2021 - North America Last Chance Qualifier event page.
Riot have also declared that the tournament will be played on the most recent 3.07 patch but the newest map, Fracture, will not feature. The event will run from October 12 to 17 and will be broadcasted on VALORANT’s official Twitch and Youtube channels as well as on co-streams.
