The Swedish brand IKEA recently announced that it is looking for full-time employees in the new IKEA store in Roblox. However, there are certain requirements that the possible employees had to meet and the first batch has already been employed by the company. How does it work? Do people get an actual salary playing Roblox? Let’s take a closer look at everything you need to know about the IKEA Roblox job!

Is IKEA Roblox job legit?

The IKEA Roblox job is real, but it exists within a virtual world. IKEA opened applications for a limited number of paid roles inside its Roblox store. These positions involved real pay at the standard IKEA rate. Although these co-workers work in a game, their pay is actual money. This may seem unusual, but it is legit at the same time.

These paid roles are not a joke or a one-time publicity stunt. They are part of IKEA’s “Careers Done Different” effort. The company wants to highlight that it offers many types of career opportunities. The idea is to show players that they can grow inside IKEA in any direction.

What is the job about?

The IKEA Roblox job lets people do tasks similar to those in a real IKEA store. Players guide customers toward the right products, arrange rooms with IKEA furniture, and handle food service in the Swedish Bistro. The virtual store mirrors everyday work inside an IKEA location. Instead of only reading about IKEA careers, players experience them directly inside the game.

The tasks represent several career paths at IKEA. A user might help a customer find a sofa, then switch to decorating a showroom. Another user might serve meatballs in the Bistro, then move on to a team leader role. The virtual store helps players understand that careers at IKEA do not follow one straight line. Available roles

The virtual store included several roles based on real IKEA positions. Each one offered a chance to learn new skills.

  • Sales Co-Worker: Guides customers to the correct products and maintains a neat showroom.
  • Interior Design Co-Worker: Arranges room sets based on a specific design brief and selects the right furniture.
  • Sales Team Leader: Advises customers, directs less experienced co-workers, and suggests suitable products.
  • Food Team Leader: Manages the Swedish Bistro, prepares meals, and serves popular IKEA foods, such as meatballs.

The game rewards players with experience points (XP) for successful tasks. As players gain XP, they move into higher positions. This system reflects IKEA’s belief that employees can build their careers step-by-step. It also encourages players to try different roles to learn more about the brand’s approach.

How to apply for the IKEA Roblox job

The application process for the paid virtual roles took place in June 2024 on the official website for IKEA’s Roblox store “www.thecoworker.co.uk/.” Interested candidates had to apply between June 3 and June 16, 2024. Applicants needed to submit a questionnaire and an updated CV. Some also sent a short video to show their personality and creativity. IKEA had some serious and fun questions in the questionnaire and whoever gave the best answers was shortlisted.

Shortlisted candidates attended digital interviews between June 14 and June 18, 2024. These interviews took place online. They tested each applicant’s communication skills, interest in IKEA’s culture, and comfort with a digital environment. Successful candidates joined the virtual store as paid co-workers.

The selection process followed regular hiring rules, except in a game environment. Applicants had to show they could work well with others, solve problems, and help customers in a virtual setting.

Who can apply for the IKEA Roblox job?

The paid roles were open to adults aged 18 or older who lived in the UK or Ireland. This condition ensured that IKEA followed employment standards and paid real wages. The company did not require past retail experience, but it wanted applicants who were curious about working in a new kind of job setting.

IKEA wanted people with a good approach to problem-solving and customer service. The company’s questions asked candidates to think about how they would handle running out of pixelated hotdogs. They also had to describe which piece of IKEA furniture they would choose to be and why.

Many other players on Roblox could also enter the virtual IKEA store without applying for a paid position. These unpaid players could help customers, explore the showroom, serve food, and enjoy the experience for fun.

How much does Roblox IKEA pay?

Paid co-workers in the IKEA Roblox store receive £13.15 per hour. It matches the rate for a regular London-based IKEA co-worker. IKEA set the wage at a real living wage level. The payment is not a token sum. It is a fair wage for the time spent working in the virtual environment.

IKEA’s project surely attracted many players in the region and offered them a fun experience with mini-games and most importantly, a real salary. If you like Roblox and want to learn more about it, don’t forget to check out these guides below:
