Vodafone Giants see players leave in preparation for Orgless + Meddo signing
GIANTX rounded out the roster in October last year with the addition of Miguel "exerZ" Marín. Following the team’s failure to make it to the First Strike Europe Regional Final, it was inevitable we will see roster changes being made. Vodafone Giants decided to let go of both Salvador "Yurii" Gasco and Jon "jonba" Baraiazarra in preparation for their upcoming competitions.
Yurii and jonba both joined the team on June 26th, 2020, and although they didn’t make it to the most important tournament of the year, they won several competitions during their tenure with the Spanish organization. They managed to win all of the Guardianes GG Series #1, the LVP - FPS All-Star, the Desafío Legión, the ROG VALORANT Master Series Invitational #1, and the LVP - Genesis Cup Visión.
In addition to that, they had multiple respectable placements in several tournaments, including 2nd place finishes in the LVP - Genesis Cup Fuego, the LVP - Genesis Cup Viento, and the GameGune 22. Yurii and jonba’s exclusion from Vodafone Giants’ VALORANT roster comes after averaging 194 and 207 ACS respectively.
They aren’t the only two departing the organization as this news comes a few weeks after star player, Adolfo "Fit1nho" Gallego, announcing his departure from the roster as well. Fit1nho’s averages of 227 ACS and 1.28 K/D definitely put him in the driving seat of the roster, managing to stand out from the rest on certain occasions and close out important victories.
Considering we are coming closer to the beginning of the much anticipated VALORANT Champions Tour season, Vodafone Giants will definitely be on the lookout for their potential new roster. We have seen multiple reports before on the topic, varying from Discord screenshots of conversations with the organization’s Gaming Director on former FunPlus Phoenix, Johan "Meddo" Lundborg, and former G2 Esports, David "davidp" Prins interest in joining the team to industry personnel and outlets discussing the potential of seeing it happen.
However, it seems the more likely scenario to happen is Vodafone Giants going with Meddo instead of Davidp with the potential of adding him to the four-man Orgless roster. The latter’s roster saw Niki "delezyh" Sutinen leave in late December to become a free agent, leaving the team with only four players, putting them in prime position to be picked up by Vodafone Giants and combine their talent with Meddo’s.
