VCT EMEA Challengers Stage 2 Viewer’s Guide
The second stage of this year’s EMEA action, VCT 2022 - EMEA - Stage 2 - Challengers - Main Event is about to start and the format will be similar to the first stage. We have a newcomer, FOKUS to replace Papara SuperMassive and they have reached the big league by qualifying from VCT 2022 - EMEA Promotion Tournament to compete against the best teams in the region. Here is everything you need to know about the tournament!
Group Stage:
Just like the first tournament, VCT 2022 - EMEA - Stage 1 - Challengers - Main Event has the same format in which 12 teams are drawn into two groups. The first three teams from each group are going to advance to the playoffs. The fourth and fifth teams will stay in the league but their run will come to an end after the group stage. All the matches are BO3 and every team will compete against each other once, according to the group stage format.
Playoffs:
First-seeded teams from each group will start their journey in the second round of the playoffs. Other teams are going to match each other in a cross-match format. The losers will have a second chance in the Lower Bracket to keep their trophy hopes alive. All matches are BO3s but the Lower Bracket Final and the Grand Final are BO5. The top three teams of the playoffs will qualify for the Stage 2 Masters.
Teams to watch
Acend have made two roster changes, acquiring Vakaris "vakk" Bebravičius and Ondřej "MONSTEERR" Petrů as covered and parting ways with Santeri "BONECOLD" Sassi and Carlos Enrique "scarx" Sánchez. They surely have the most anticipated performance in Group A but they have very tough opponents. The last EMEA champions, FunPlus Phoenix, and the group stage giants Fnatic are also very dangerous. Moreover, G2 Esports are also in Group A, making it hard for FOKUS and OG LDN Utd to make it to the playoffs stage. It will be a very close matchup with all the contenders stacked up in a group.
M3 Champions and Team Liquid are the expected contenders of Group B but we may see huge upsets especially from Natus Vincere and Guild Esports. Guild’s synergy has always helped them to get great results in the past. It is expected that Team Liquid and M3 Champions are going to battle against each other to clinch the first spot before heading to the playoffs and their competition will be very entertaining to watch. Moreover, the race for the third spot will also be very entertaining as the rosters are pretty close on paper. We all should keep an eye on Guild Esports as they are very unpredictable with insane performances.
