VCT Champions 2021 Day 9: Gambit Esports and KRÜ Esports are the latest semifinalists, X10 Crit and Fnatic are out of the tournament

The last day of the quarterfinals at VCT 2021 - VALORANT Champions 2021 ended in favor of Gambit Esports and KRÜ Esports, who reached the semifinals stage. Farewell to X10 Crit and Fnatic despite their contentious efforts.

Patiphan "patt" Chaiwong has been playing out of his mind since the start of the tournament and he was the mainstay of his team once again in the early stages. However, Gambit Esports’ tactics worked really well on Fracture and we saw a one-sided first half from the EMEA team. X10 Crit had a better showing in the second half compared to the first half, but it still wasn’t enough to win against the VCT 2021 - Stage 3 - Masters Berlin - Playoffs winners. Gambit closed out the first game in 21 rounds. Nikita "d3ffo" Sudakov showed spectacular performances in both halves, finishing the game with 21 kills and a 1.52 rating.

X10 Crit competed like a different team in the second map as they conquered the map in almost every gunfight. After grabbing seven rounds in the first half, the Thai team gave no chance to Gambit Esports as they won the map with a score of 13-7. Itthirit "Foxz" Ngamsaard shined with 18 kills and a 1.38 rating but other members had similar statistics and it was a total team effort in the end.

The game started head-to-head with clutch moves performed by both teams. Gambit had a small lead in the first half. Igor "Redgar" Vlasov was the difference-maker for the EMEA side with his solid A hall defence on Breeze. X10 Crit made a perfect execution in the opening round of the second half to even the score. However, Timofey "Chronicle" Khromov had a huge performance in their first buy-round. Gambit sat behind the wheel after that point and dominated the game until the end, finishing it with a score of 13-7. As they won the series, the EMEA team will play in the semifinals stage.

The competition started with opposing moves to break the tie in the early stages. The European side fired the first bullet by getting ahead in the first half with a score of 8-4. Fnatic’s superstar Derke had some clutch kills and rounds to keep his team ahead. KRÜ Esports answered back in the early rounds of the second half but Fnatic’s first-half performance kept them in the lead until the later stages. However, they eventually caught their opponents on the scoreboard to force overtime. KRÜ had a phenomenal overtime performance to win the first map, 15-13. Their shot-calling in the last round was surely on another level. Joaquín "delz1k" Espinoza stepped up with 26 kills and a 278 ACS.

Thanks to Derke, Fnatic won the first two rounds on their chosen map, Icebox. Domagoj "Doma" Fancev was the other factor of Fnatic’s dominance in the game until reaching the 12-point mark. KRÜ Esports managed to grab several rounds to keep their hopes alive but it wasn’t enough. Fnatic stopped making mistakes and played much more patiently to even the series in 19 rounds. Derke finished the game with a 23-kill performance and a 1.61 rating.

The decider map of the series was Split. KRÜ Esports’ defence looked strong in the first half but Fnatic had some decent answers on the attacking side. The second half started with KRÜ’s win and Fnatic had to do something to reach the upper stages of the tournament. Jake "Boaster" Howlett kept his team’s hopes alive with a huge clutch to win his team their sixth round in the game but KRÜ Esports were the better side today. Fnatic struggled to defend their sites and failed to win gunfights. KRÜ Esports won the series with their insane effort in the last clutch position. They will face Gambit Esports in the semifinals.
