VCT 2022 - Korea - Stage 1 - Main Event Viewers Guide
In under 24 hours, VCT 2022 - Korea - Stage 1 - Main Event will begin. Here's everything you need to know about the event, from qualified teams to a detailed schedule for each match day.
Qualified Teams:
As you might be aware, this event will feature a total of 8 teams, with all of them qualifying through VCT 2022 - Korea - Stage 1 - Round of 16. The teams are as follows:
DRX Dplus Desperado HolyMolly Maru Gaming On Sla2ers Team T5 World Game StarGroup Stage:
All teams are part of a single group and given its single Round Robin format, each team will play against all the other teams in their group once. The Group Stage will continue through till March 13 with matches scheduled almost every day. The 1st & 2nd placed team will advance to Upper Bracket Round 2, meanwhile 3rd to 6th placed teams will advance to Upper Bracket Round 1.
Playoff stages:
Only the top six teams from the Group Stages will proceed to the Playoffs, which will be played out from 17th-27th March. The playoffs will be a two-week double-elimination format. Until the Lower Final and Grand Final, which will both be best-of-five, all matches will be in the conventional Bo3 format. Only two teams from the playoffs will be given a secure spot at VCT 2022 - Stage 1 - Masters Reykjavík.
Teams to watch:
DRX, previously known as Vision Strikers, had a relatively successful year in terms of tournament results with 1st place finishes in all regional tournaments they participated in except VCT 2021 - Stage 2 - Korea - Challengers, which became the unfortunate cause behind their absence from VCT 2021 - Stage 2 - Masters Reykjavík, the only major event they couldn’t qualify for. Given the consistency of their performances, the changes that the roster encountered were far and few between.
Although most teams in the Valorant scene introduced several changes to their roster in the ongoing off-season period, Vision Strikers utilized a less aggressive approach by only loaning Lee "k1Ng" Seung-won to Sla2ers and allowing Kim "Lakia" Jong-min to search for options. Since their roster is relatively same as last year, their performance hasn’t been affected either, so they are one of the favorites for this tournament.
Yet another team to keep eyes on is Dplus, which had a good run in the initial stage of VCT 2021 qualifying for the regional masters and ending up with 3rd-4th place in the tournament. This earned them a spot at the Stage 2 Challengers event; however, they fell shy of qualifying to VCT 2021 - Stage 2 - Masters Reykjavík after a loss to NUTURN Gaming. Stage 3 bore a similar fate for the team as they couldn’t make it to VCT 2021 - Stage 3 - Masters Berlin - Playoffs and since they did not have enough circuit points to make VCT 2021 - VALORANT Champions 2021, they had to compete at VCT 2021 - APAC Last Chance Qualifier.
DWG KIA couldn’t capitalize on this opportunity to qualify for the Champions and had to settle for a 3rd place. It will be interesting to see how the changes they made to their roster during off-season, especially the addition of Jeong "Esperanza" Jin-cheol and Yoon "hyeoni" Hyun-seok to their roster will affect their performance.
Format and Schedule:
All matches will be conducted in a Best-of-three format, with all match days starting at 7 AM UTC.
