Shopify Rebellion wins their first ever VCT Game Changers Championship
Shopify Rebellion Female wins their first-ever VCT Game Changers Championship in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in a best-of-five series against Team Liquid BR. This match-up was one of the most anticipated since last year; meL and Alexis from Shopify have wanted to face Daiki and Bstrdd since Game Changers, Berlin 2022.
The map selection on the best of five series started with two bans from Shopify Rebellion, having an advantage due to them being a higher seed in the tournament. SR picked their first maps as Haven and Breeze, whereas Team Liquid picked Lotus and Sunset. Ascent was left as the decider map.
Shopify Rebellion win Game Changers 2023 without dropping a series
The first map of the series started with Haven and Team Liquid as attackers; while SR managed to win the pistol round, Team Liquid quickly snatched away the second round from them and won four rounds in a row, finally ending the first half with a scoreline of 7-5. With the second half up and running, Team Liquid BR won their pistol and anti-eco to get a lead of 9-5. Then we finally saw SR climb back into the game, taking the first map to overtime and finally securing the first map of the series. Both teams looked extremely confident and played flawlessly throughout the map, but Shopify Rebellion emerged as the better side.
On Lotus, Shopify Rebellion decided to attack first and successfully managed chip away the rounds, taking the first half to a scoreline of 8-4. On their own attack side, despite SR winning the pistol, Team Liquid bounced back starting from their buy round and got into a nice groove. This kept Shopify Rebellion thinking how they were gonna approach the rounds and went ahead to secure the map with a tight score of 13-11.
The third map of the series was Breeze, and Shopify Rebellion looked very comfortable there compared to Lotus. They won their first attacking half with a score of 9-3. Team Liquid tried to bring it back by winning the pistol round of the second half and the next round, but Shopify Rebellion secured the map by winning from their buy round and securing the map with a score of 13-5 and a series point.
Sunset was the fourth map, and Shopify Rebellion chose to attack first, but TL showed the same dominance on Sunset as Shopify Rebellion showed on Breeze by securing the first half with a score of 10-2. Shopify Rebellion tried to climb back into the game in the defending half, but they only managed to win seven rounds in total. Team Liquid won the map with the final scoreline of 13-7, tying up the series with a score of 2-2.
The last and final map was Ascent, and Team Liquid BR chose to start as defenders first. Ascent might have been the most entertaining and close match throughout the whole series. SR managed to win the pistol round, but with the heroics of Joojina from Team Liquid, they managed to win the round after pistols without investing much in the round. The map went close in the first half with a 6-6 half. Suddenly, the game shifted as soon as Shopify Rebellion started to defend in the second half; they dominated and stopped Team Liquid BR every time they tried to attack and managed to win the map and the tournament with a final scoreline of 13-6.
Also, a special mention for florescent, she has been insane throughout the whole series and created a new record for getting the highest kills with a total of 112 kills in a single LAN series ever in VALORANT Game Changers.
