Sentinels add Marved as sixth-man after SicK suspension

Sentinels announced the signing of ex-OpTic Gaming player Jimmy "Marved" Nguyen as their 6th player following the suspension of Hunter "SicK" Mims.

Although regarded as one of the world's top players in 2022, Marved was unable to get a seat on a partnered team for the 2023 season. The 23-year-old assisted the OpTic lineup in winning the VCT 2022 - Stage 1 - Masters Reykjavík before placing 2nd at VALORANT Champions 2022. OpTic said they were searching for offers immediately after Champions, despite being one of the top teams on the globe. Marved subsequently said that he was taking a hiatus from competing. He has only participated in two invitational competitions and the NA LCQ since that time with Jay "sinatraa" Won and Jared "zombs" Gitlin under the name of Untamable Beasts.

Marved will be a part of the Sentinels lineup that competed at VCT 2023 - LOCK//IN and was defeated by Fnatic in the first round, who later won the tournament.

Before the Marved signing, the organization briefly suspended Hunter "SicK" Mims following his arrest in Texas. SicK still is contracted with Sentinels, however, teams participating in the VCT are required to field a 6-man roster for their matches.

What happened to Sentinels’ Sick?

SicK received a temporary ban from Sentinels on March 6. He was detained under a $5,000 bail after being charged with a Class B misdemeanor. He is now detained in Dallas, Texas' Collin County Jail. Sentinels CEO Rob Moore later acknowledged the choice to add a new sixth member to the squad through Twitter. "We want to be there for Hunter at this trying time. But because the franchise league is about to start, we'll be seeking to recruit a sixth player who can temporarily fill the place he's left open," added Moore.

Marved will represent Sentinels in the VCT 2023 - Americas League. However, it is uncertain if Marved will ever join Sentinels' starting lineup in the server.
