Oxygen Esports finalize roster for NA Challengers
Teams that have earned a spot in the International Leagues were quick to finalize their roster for the VCT 2023 season considering the plethora of rules they had to abide by being a member of Riot’s partner program.
However, the esports scene for Valorant will feature more competition at the regional level as teams participate in the Challenger circuits designed by Riot to serve as a pathway to securing a spot in the International Leagues. Following the likes of G2 Esports and TSM finalizing their roster, Oxygen Esports has announced that their Academy roster will be their main representatives.
The academy roster was initiated in January 2022 with the signing of Ex-Flickbaiter and has since seen several changes throughout the year as they competed in NSG and Pittsburgh Knights events maintaining a decent placement with minor fluctuations.
In the last month, the newly formed roster played under Hydrogen before officially being recognized into the Academy roster and subsequently promoted as their main representative. The only remaining core member in the team is Andrew "Verno" Maust, who will be joined by Logan "skuba" Jenkins from Pittsburgh knights, Mitch "mitch" Semago from Cloud9, Devon "randyySAVAGE" Bréard from Renegades and finally Josh "pwny" VanGorder from T1. Although Yassine "Reduxx" Aboulalazm will be retained as a core member of the roster, he will remain a substitute assisting the team as required.
Apart from Mitch, no player in the roster has had experience playing in Challenger events but have performed relatively well in local events with their respective teams. Furthermore, the chemistry and energy in the team during Pittsburgh Knights Monthly Gauntlet 2022 - November was noticeable as they finished 2nd with a tough loss on the decider.
With this announcement, the roster is as follows:
Andrew "Verno" Maust Logan "skuba" Jenkins Mitch "mitch" Semago Devon "randyySAVAGE" Bréard Josh "pwny" VanGorder Yassine "Reduxx" AboulalazmAlan "wrap" Shen (Manager) Preston "Juv3nile" Dornon (Head Coach) Rustun "Rustun" Lusk (Assistant Coach)
