Mixwell announces retirement from competitive gaming
Former CS:GO and VALORANT veteran Oscar Cañellas "m1xwell" Colocho has announced that he has officially retired from the competitive gaming scene.
Mixwell reveals his departure from VALORANT
Mixwell's journey began in the esports world, particularly in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive in 2012, where he quickly rose to prominence as a skilled AWPer. Over the course of nine years, he gained recognition from top organizations, laying the foundation for his successful career. In June 2020, Mixwell made a significant switch to VALORANT with joining G2 Esports. His time with G2 was marked by numerous victories in 2020 and 2021, including a notable top-four finish at the prestigious 2021 Masters: Berlin, where they demonstrated remarkable resilience despite losing to Gambit Esports, the eventual champions.
The year 2022 brought Mixwell and G2 back to the international stage, qualifying for Masters: Reykjavik as the top seed from EMEA. Their performance, culminating in a top-six finish, highlighted Mixwell's determination and skill. However, G2 Esports decided to leave the VALORANT scene in October 2022, leading Mixwell to Team Heretics. Despite high expectations, Team Heretics faced challenges, finishing in last place during the LOCK//IN event and securing the eighth position in the EMEA League. Their journey ended in the EMEA LCQ, concluding the 2023 season.
Mixwell bid an emotional farewell to his professional gaming career in a heartfelt announcement on Twitch. He expressed his feelings and excitement about new opportunities while confirming his continued association with Team Heretics in a different role as a Content Creator.
Mixwell's esports journey has been remarkable, showcasing his exceptional skills across various titles. While VALORANT didn't bring the same level of success as his earlier ventures, Mixwell's impact on the gaming world remains significant. Fans eagerly anticipate his future endeavors, whether in content creation, streaming, or other ventures.
With a heavy heart, Mixwell announced his retirement, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and skill in the esports world. His departure raises questions about his future endeavors, with fans speculating on possibilities such as a return to CS:GO, content creation, or streaming. OpTic Gaming CEO Hector Rodriguez extended his best wishes to Mixwell, hinting at the potential for future collaborations in the content creation sphere.
As Mixwell closes this chapter, his contributions to the esports community will be celebrated, solidifying his legacy as a prominent figure in competitive gaming.
