M80 sign Happy as Head Coach to finalize VCT 2023 roster
On the weekend, Knight Arena announced the six teams invited directly to participate at VCT 2023 - Challengers League North America - Split 1 , and the newly-formed Canadian roster, M80, was also able to secure a slot on that list. Formed in late off-season, the team featured notable names in the VALORANT scene. A month after their initial roster announcement, they have named Vincent "Happy" Cervoni as their head coach.
From competitor to Head Coach
Happy has been an active participant in the esports scene for more than a decade, most notably having competed in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Counter-Strike: Source. During his time in CS:GO, he led Team LDLC.com and Team EnVyUS to Majors: DreamHack Winter 2014 with the former, and DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015 with the latter. His extensive resume also features several other S-tier tournament victories including the World Championship in 2015 for France.
On May 13, 2020 he retired from CS:GO and transitioned to VALORANT. However, the success he enjoyed in CS:GO did not follow him to a similar extent as he was benched by Giants Gaming after Stage 1 qualifiers in VCT 2021. After brief stints with Excel Esports and Team BDS, he took a break from competing and transitioned to analysis and broadcasting French regional leagues.
“It happened during my time at the analyst desk for the French league, watching all these games (and international tournaments too) and seeing how much experience and guidance I could give to so many players made me realize [that] my value was no longer as a player on the server but as someone who is working behind the team.”
Although Happy doesn't hold coaching experience, his tremendous knowledge of the scene could pay dividends and may be essential to M80’s success during the Challenger Leagues.
With this announcement, the M80 roster is as follows:
Daniel "eeiu" Vucenovic Alexander "Zander" Dituri Marki "NiSMO" Tayar Mohamed Amine "Johnqt" Ouarid GianFranco "koalanoob" PotestioVincent "Happy" Cervoni (Head Coach) Luke "Gunter" Clives (Assistant Coach)
