M3 Champions and Team Liquid reach Upper Bracket Final - EMEA LCQ Day 4
M3 Champions and Team Liquid are your VCT 2022 - EMEA Last Chance Qualifier Upper Bracket Finalists. The losers of yesterday, Natus Vincere and OG LDN Utd are still in the competition as they will now continue their way from the Lower Bracket.
After sweeping G2 Esports in the first round, the expectation from OGLU was much bigger and they faced M3C to continue their miracle run in the tournament. They picked Bind to start the first series of the Upper Bracket Semi Finals. Despite losing the pistol round, OGLU were the better side of the first half. The Lithuanian team picked up seven rounds on the defensive side and lost five. Their defense was impressive in many rounds as M3C ran out of time and had to save their weapons for the other rounds. Lukas "feqew" Petrauskas had a massive performance with a 1.74 rating on Raze. He topped his game by securing 14 kills on defense and his kills were very important for the side of OG LDN Utd. M3C’s newest addition, Yaroslav "Jady" Nikolaev had an important role on the attacking side, holding a 1.23 rating on Skye. The second half was mostly pure dominance by the Russian team. With Timofey "Chronicle" Khromov’s lead, M3 Champions only lost one round and successfully defended the bomb sites eight times to win the first map, 13-8. Chronicle had a 2.0 rating in the second half.
The second map of the competition was M3 Champions’ choice, Icebox. The first half was very close and both sides grabbed six rounds. Every stage of the first half was almost identical with both teams trying to get the lead but they failed in the end. Michał "MOLSI" Łącki had a massive performance with KAY/O in his hands, holding a 2.0 rating while grabbing 19 kills. Bogdan "sheydos" Naumov tried his best to match him on the same agent with a 1.78 rating. Neither side managed to break the tie in the second half and the game went to overtime after M3C’s successful defense in the 24th round. OG LDN Utd had a great performance in the overtime and they won the map after the second cycle, 15-13. MOLSI finished the game with 25 kills.
As both teams grabbed one win each, it was time for Ascent to decide the first Upper Bracket Finalists of EMEA LCQ. Starting with the pistol round, M3 Champions had a dominant performance on the attacking side. The Russian team won nine rounds in the first half and secured a huge advantage before switching sides. Ayaz "nAts" Akhmetshin led his team with 11 kills on Astra. The agent is very effective on Ascent and nAts is obviously a great Astra player. OG LDN Utd started the second half in style, winning four rounds in a row and the fans thought that the competition was going to be tight. However, OG’s run ended pretty early. M3 Champions had great defensive efforts to stop OG’s streak. nAts had an incredible performance, maybe one of the best for Ascent, as he held a monstrous 2.50 rating, grabbing 16 kills on his own. The Russian smoker helped his team win the map and reach the Upper Bracket Final.
Team Liquid’s gameplay improved after the arrival of Dmitriy "dimasick" Matvienko and it was visible once again against the CIS team, Natus Vincere. The first map of the series was Breeze as Na’vi’s choice. Liquid had an impressive performance in the early stages of the first half. The European team won five rounds in a row and had great defenses. However, Natus Vincere managed to catch them by executing their attacks perfectly and the first half ended in a tie, 6-6. Kirill "Cloud" Nehozhin stepped up with Skye in his hands, holding a 1.68 rating. The Benrlitom brothers, ScreaM and Nivera, carried Liquid on their backs with 23 kills combined. Liquid had a better attacking performance in the second half. ScreaM continued to dominate with Jett and his brother, Nivera, helped him with Viper. Cloud and zeddy’s performances were not enough for Na’Vi as Liquid won the first map after 22 rounds, 13-9.
TL’s map pick was Fracture and they had the map advantage in the series. The competition looked close and both teams won back-to-back rounds to have the advantage before going into the second half. Team Liquid had done a slightly better job as they grabbed seven rounds and lost five. Dom "soulcas" Sulcas stepped up with a 2.01 rating and 17 kills with Elias "Jamppi" Olkkonen helping him with a 1.69 rating and 14 kills. The second half was even closer as the competition continued until the very last round. Natus Vincere reached the 11-round point but Team Liquid had two great defensive efforts to conclude the game and the series by winning Fracture 13-11. The first-half heroes continued their great performances. Jamppi finished the game with 28 kills and soulcas grabbed 27.
Today’s games will decide who will say goodbye to the tournament and of course to their VALORANT Champions dreams. More information about the tournament and the bracket is on the events page.
