LOUD overcome NAVI, FUT defeat T1 in decider matches
Another day, another day of defeats and triumphs at VCT 2023 - Champions. We are now nearing the end of the group stage of the event as the playoffs are closer by the day. Following a 2-day break in the schedule, we will be back on August 16. But let's get ahead of ourselves as there are still two matches remaining on Sunday, August 14.
August 13 saw two decider matches take place. One team would move on to the playoffs, while the other would be sent home. The day saw the following matchups take to the stage:
LOUD defeat NAVI in a nail-biter series
Perhaps the best match of the event thus far, NAVI and LOUD went all out in an absolutely draining matchup. The best-of-three went all the way with each map ending with a 13-11 score for one of the two powerhouses.
All three maps saw back-and-forth scores as neither team wanted to let the map slip through their fingers. Felipe "Less" de Loyola Basso proved to be the day's most impressive player with the 18-year old attaining a rating of 1.25 across the three maps. This came in the nick of time as Erick "aspas" Santos was frequently shut down by NAVI. LOUD showed that even when aspas is not on top of his game, the team is a well-oiled machine.
On NAVI's side, it was yet again Mehmet Yağız "cNed" İpek that was the standout player for the team. Despite his best efforts, NAVI leave the event in Los Angeles and finish the VCT season on a rather disappointing note.
FUT eliminate T1
Despite FUT winning out the series 2-0, both maps ended in a tight scoreline, including an overtime on Pearl. In the end, it was the Turkish side that clinched their ticket to the playoffs of VALORANT Champions.
Furkan "MrFaliN" Yegen emerged as the match's MVP with a rating of 1.38 and a total of 45 kills on Killjoy and Fade over the course of the two maps. Ha "Sayaplayer" Jung-woo, T1's premiere duelist, put up a solid fight, but with a rating of 1.06 and the only player to go positive, it simply wasn't enough for T1 to force the decider map, and perhaps attain victory.
T1 are eliminated from the event while FUT enter the playoffs of Champions 2023.
