LOUD eliminates Team Liquid, T1 wins against FPX, and PRX secures playoffs over EDG
With the excitement of the last days still vivid, the VCT 2023 - Champions is still able to introduces an additional layer of excitement and unpredictability for all VALORANT enthusiasts.
These were the clashes of the day:
Team Liquid vs. LOUD
To kick off the day's matches, we had the most anticipated showdown right from the start: Team Liquid versus LOUD. These two regional champions from their respective leagues clashed to determine who would stay alive in the competition. LOUD was coming off a rough streak, having left Masters Tokyo without any victories and starting with a loss against DRX in the Champions tournament. An intense battle against TL was expected, but it didn't quite play out that way. Employing a Harbor and Viper composition, LOUD showcased an incredibly strong and dominant performance on Haven. They had no trouble defending against Liquid's attacks and managed to end the first half with a commanding score of 10-2. With a lot to overcome, Liquid couldn't secure the Pistol Round or the Bonus, ultimately succumbing with a score of 13-2.
On Team Liquid's chosen map, Split, things started off a bit differently. Despite once again losing the Pistol Round and Bonus, the European team managed to stage a recovery and ended the first half tied with the Brazilian squad. They even took the lead in the second half by securing the first Pistol Round of the series. However, their momentum didn't hold, and LOUD quickly regained control. Without dropping another round, LOUD surged ahead in the competition, concluding the map with a score of 13-8, and consequently winning the series 2-0. With this outcome, Team Liquid bids farewell to the competition.
The standout of the series was "cauanzin" with a rating of 1.24 and a 75% First Blood Success Rate (FBSR).
FunPlus Phoenix vs. T1
In the second matchup of the day, the Chinese team FunPlus Phoenix faced off against the Korean squad T1. Right from the first map, we witnessed an intense clash. With the lead shifting between the teams during the first half, it was FPX that managed to come out on top and carried that advantage into the second half. The Chinese team secured the second half Pistol Round and Eco, building a 9-5 lead. However, their momentum waned from there. T1 staged a strong comeback, round by round, erasing the difference and reclaiming the advantage. The Koreans only lost 1 more round and eventually closed out the first map with a score of 13-10.
Moving on to Bind, T1's chosen map, the Pacific team exhibited a formidable attacking side, culminating in an impressive 9-3 lead by the end of the first half. In the second half, FPX made an attempt, but not even the "9-3 curse" could impede T1. The Korean squad managed to wrap up the second map rather comfortably with a score of 13-7, securing a 2-0 series victory. With this outcome, the Koreans sent FPX back home without much success in their international debut.
The standout of the series goes to "Sayaplayer", with 40 kills, a 1.26 rating, and 10 First Bloods.
Edward Gaming vs. PRX
In the last game of the day, to end on a high note, PaperRex and Edward Gaming faced off. On the first map, EDG's choice, PRX displayed a strong attack in the first half, securing crucial points to put the Pacific team in a comfortable position. With a score of 8-4 at the end of the first half, the second half started even better, as PRX claimed the Pistol Round and Bonus. Although EDG managed to score some points, it wasn't enough, resulting in a 13-7 victory for PRX.
In the second map of the series, Pearl, we witnessed the most thrilling contest of the day. Both teams managed to secure 7 rounds on the attacking side, pushing the match into an Overtime. This OT delivered spectacular plays, and with a 16-14 score, PRX emerged victorious and secured a spot in the Playoffs. "f0rsaken," playing as Killjoy, racked up an impressive 30 kills for his team on Pearl alone, totaling 46 kills for the entire series with a rating of 1.29. His performance ensured the win for his team and earned him the MVP of the series.
