jcStani speculates parting ways with 100 Thieves
100 Thieves has earned itself a reputation for an unstable roster and relatively frequent roster changes in the ongoing VCT season. The latest news comes from Noah "jcStani" Smith, who took to Twitter to hint his potential transfer from the team despite being loaned by the team a little over a month ago.
Given 100 Thieves’ performance in VCT 2021 and 4th ranking in the NA region according to circuit points, they were given a direct invite to VCT 2022 - North America - Stage 1 - Main Event. While this meant that they wouldn’t need to worry about qualifying, it presented a downside in terms of testing out their revamped roster, which consisted of Adam "ec1s" Eccles and Hunter "BabyJ" Schline brought on to complete their roster for the new VCT season.
When the Stage 1 Challengers Main Event commenced, 100 Thieves encountered one loss after the other. But it wasn’t until the defeat against The Guard that the team decided to make the most surprising and immediate roster change known in the recent history of esports. Players that were participating under the organization’s banner were released from their contracts within 24 hours and new players were loaned from TSM and Kansas City Pioneers.
However, the new roster couldn’t live up to its expectations either and the team ended their tournament run with one win and four losses eliminating them from Playoff contention. With their hopes of making VCT 2022 - Stage 1 - Masters Reykjavík being diffused, they decided to restructure their team once again by signing Daniel "ddk" Kapadia as the new general manager, Sean "seangares" Gares as head coach and Michael "Mikes" Hockom as the assistant coach. Meanwhile, Jovanni "Jovi" Vera also parted ways with the organization.
Prior to being loaned by 100 Thieves, Noah "jcStani" Smith was a part of Kansas City Pioneers’s active roster and had been competing for the team since November 2020 contributing to their recent performances including 5th-8th place at Knights Arena VALORAMPAGE - Main Event and NSG 2022 Winter Championship - Finals.
While his departure from the roster hasn’t been officially announced, the Twitlonger stated:
**"I’m still frustrated with how this turned out for me. Was told by someone with 100T that plan was to sign me after VCT. They kept reiterating how much they liked me and how flexible I was.[..] So, learning today that I wasn’t in their plans still caught me off guard. I know the full direction of the team wasn’t decided on but I really got the vibe they wanted me for the future up until I was told otherwise earlier." **
Towards the end of this TwitLonger, he also stated that he is willing to trial with any teams that will have him because he "really wants to be a part of a great team heading into the next VCT qualifying run and is willing to do anything to make that happen."
With this alleged change, 100 Thieves’ roster will be as follows:
Spencer "Hiko" Martin Peter "Asuna" Mazuryk Ethan "Ethan" Arnold Sean "bang" BezerraDaniel "ddk" Kapadia (General Manager) Sean "seangares" Gares (Head Coach) Michael "Mikes" Hockom (Assistant Coach)
