Jamppi joins Team Liquid
After Adam "ec1s" Eccles was moved to an inactive position on Team Liquid’s roster yesterday, they’ve announced his replacement, Elias "Jamppi" Olkkonen.
The possibility of Jamppi joining the team was first made widely known by a report from Daily Esports, and today it’s come true. In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Jamppi was known as a quite bright upcoming talent, but was hampered by a VAC Ban that kept him off the top teams. He eventually found his way to ENCE, where he finished top 2 in the BLAST Premier Spring 2020 European Showdown, but inconsistent results followed. Jamppi made his desire to move to VALORANT known earlier this year.
According to the announcement video, Jamppi will be functioning as Team Liquid’s Jett/Operator player, filling a role that has been difficult for the team to fill ever since Ardis "ardiis" Svarenieks left them when they were known as Fish123. Adil "ScreaM" Benrlitom has taken it up recently, posting massive statistics, but it seems Team Liquid would prefer to keep him in another role rather than forcing him on Jett because they don’t have one.
Jamppi has not played any VALORANT competitively yet, so we don’t really have an idea of how he’ll stack up, but he certainly brings new life and a new look to a stagnating Team Liquid. They have one last shot to make Masters, but they’ll have to go through the VCT 2021 - Stage 1 - Europe - Challengers 3 - Open Qualifier.
Team Liquid are now:
James “Kryptix” Affleck Travis “L1NK” Mendoza Dom “soulcas’ Sulcas Adil “ScreaM” Benrlitom Elias “Jamppi” Olkkonen
Adam “ec1s” Eccles (Benched)
Connor “Sliggy” Blomfield (Coach)
