Fnatic sweep Guild Esports in EMEA Upper Bracket Final
Fnatic reached the VCT 2022 - EMEA - Stage 2 - Challengers - Main Event Grand Final after sweeping Guild Esports in the Upper Bracket Final. They are now waiting for their opponent to be set.
Bind
The only undefeated team in the Group Stage, Fnatic chose Bind as the opening map of the Upper Bracket Final. They previously took down FunPlus Phoenix in the Upper Bracket Semis but their choice was Icebox. On the other side of the game, Guild Esports came to the final by pushing M3 Champions to the Lower Bracket. The last time Guild played Bind was the fourth Group Stage game, against BBL Esports. It was their choice and they closed out the map after 26 rounds of play, 14-12. Today, Fnatic made a great start by defusing the bomb in the pistol round. The Turkish wonderkid, Emir "Alfajer" Ali Beder had a massive 4-kill Viper performance to win his team the first round of the series. FNC won two more rounds and dominated the early stage of the competition. However, Guild Esports came back to life after Nikita "trexx" Cherednichenko and Leo "Leo" Jannesson’s efforts. Both teams made clutch plays until the end of the first half and failed to break the tie, 6-6. Fnatic won the last round to start their attacking turn with an advantage. Alfajer used Viper very efficiently in the first half and secured 12 kills while holding a 1.25 rating and a 1.2 K/D. He also led his team in terms of ACS with a solid 238. The Russian Raze, trexx matched him in terms of kills on Guild’s side. He also led the game in terms of rating with a 1.33 at the end of the first half. Despite having a low HS%, 18%, he dropped 3 first bloods to open up bomb sites for his teammates. Fnatic’s attacking turn started in style as they won the four rounds without facing any difficulties. In this 4-round time, they wiped out Guild members three times and made the bomb explode once. After dropping a couple of rounds, they closed out the map by winning seven rounds and losing three in the second half. The game ended with a score of 13-9 and FNC started the series with an important win. Apart from Alfajer’s 18-kill Viper, Jake "Boaster" Howlett led his team with a 1.19 rating and 17 kills. Nikita "Derke" Sirmitev was very effective in the second half and he completed the first map with 5 first bloods. Saif "Sayf" Jibraeel’s 21-kill Chamber wasn’t enough for Guild to match their opponent’s dominance.
Haven
Guild Esports’s map pick was Haven. Once again, Fnatic started on the defending side and won the pistol round and the second round. This time, Derke stepped up with Chamber in his hands, dropping 3 kills in the opening round of the series. Throughout the first half, Guild Esports tried to show their pulse by winning a couple of rounds but FNC were dominant on defense. They won eight rounds in the first half and held a huge advantage before going into the second half and switching sides. Guild’s attacks weren’t efficient, especially against Alfajer and Derke. The Turkish Raze finished the first half with 15 kills and a 1.67 rating. The Finnish Chamber on the other hand secured 13 kills and held a 1.53 rating. Just like the first map, trexx tried to keep his team in the game, securing 10 kills on Raze. The second half started with Guild Esports’ impressive post-plant plays. Fnatic managed to plant the bomb in the first two rounds but Guild players found a way to deny the explosion and started the second half 2-0. Leo "Leo" Jannesson’s 3-kill Fade performance was the key point of their early success. Fnatic managed to grab a couple of rounds on the attacking side and got closer to the match point. After winning the 24th round, they closed out the second map 13-11, denying overtime. Alfajer completed the game with 28 kills and Derke followed him with 27. The duo played a huge role in Fnatic’s success. On Guild’s side, trexx secured 25 kills throughout the game but it wasn’t enough.
Fnatic are the first Grand Finalists and their opponent will be clear tomorrow. The winner of the FunPlus Phoenix vs M3 Champions matchup will come up against Guild Esports in the Lower Bracket Final. The winner of the Lower Bracket Final will become Fnatic’s opponent in the Grand Final.
