EDG secures victory over Giants and Bilibili bests NRG in deciding match

The group stage of VCT 2023 - Champions concludes with two decisive victories for the Chinese teams. Edward Gaming and Bilibili Gaming secured their qualifications in the final moments.

Edward Gaming vs. Giants

In the first match of the day, Edward Gaming faced off against Giants. However, the Chinese team didn't give much chance to their EMEA opponents. In the very first map, Giants' choice, Split, EDG managed to secure a substantial lead of 9-3 in the first half of the game. Winning the Pistol Round while on the defensive side in the second half made things even easier for them. Giants only managed to secure 3 more rounds, and the match concluded with a score of 13-6 in favor of EDG.

In the second map of the series, EDG's choice, Fracture, the Chinese team displayed a solid defense. Not granting many opportunities to their opponents, Edward Gaming concluded the first half leading the score with an 8-4 advantage. Once again, they secured the Pistol Round and only allowed their opponents to secure 3 more rounds until the end of the match. They comfortably closed out the series with a score of 13-7. The standout players of the series were CHICHOO with 37 kills and a K/D ratio of 2.06, and ZmjjKK with 38 kills and a rating of 1.28.

Bilibili Gaming vs. NRG Esports

In the final match of the day, NRG and Bilibili Gaming faced off to determine who would be heading home and who would continue in the competition. Despite entering the series as the underdog, Bilibili showed their determination. In the early stages of the second half on NRG's map choice, Bind, the American team had already secured a 4-round advantage, leading 9-5. However, led by whzy and his Raze, the Chinese team mounted a strong attack and gradually turned this deficit around until they took the lead.

After winning the Pistol Round and the Round Eco in the second half, NRG only managed to secure points in one more round, while Bilibili managed to close out the first map with a score of 13-10.

The second map of the series turned out to be much more one-sided. On Ascent, Bilibili's map choice, the Chinese team established a significant lead in the first half, dominating with an 8-4 advantage, and they didn't allow NRG to mount a comeback at any point. Only losing the Bonus Round in the second half, BBG concluded the series by defeating NRG with a score of 13-5. With this outcome, NRG bids farewell to the competition.
