DRX VS reach playoffs, XERXIA and LOUD are out of the competition
After today’s games, DRX reached the playoffs stage. OpTic Gaming and FunPlus Phoenix managed to keep their hopes alive but it is the end of the road for LOUD and XERXIA.
DRX VS VS FunPlus Phoenix
In Group B’s Winners Match, DRX picked Haven as the first map of the series. The first half came to an end with both teams winning consecutive rounds. In the end, DRX VS grabbed 7 rounds and led the half on defense. Goo "Rb" Sang-Min led his team, holding a 1.79 rating and grabbing 15 kills. The South Korean Jett secured 6 first bloods and had a 2.14 K/D. On the other side of the competition Andrey "Shao" Kiprsky’s Fade played the biggest role with a 1.61 rating and 13 kills. The second half of Haven was a different scenario as the CIS representatives sat behind the wheel. FunPlus Phoenix dominated the second half by winning 8 rounds and losing only 1, closing out the first map after 21 rounds, 13-8. Shao’s dominance continued in the second half. The Russian Fade grabbed 29 kills and held a 2.03 rating.
FPX had a great chance to close out the series in their map pick, Fracture but they failed to use the chance. DRX VS had a great performance on the attacking side, winning 9 rounds in the first half. DRX’s teamwork was on another level but Kim "Zest" Gi-seok stepped up with Fade in his hands, holding a 1.44 rating and a 2.2 K/D. Ardis "ardiis" Svarenieks was the only player with double digits on the scoreboard, 14 kills on Chamber. FPX couldn’t match DRX’s attacking dominance and eventually lost the game after 7 rounds in the second half. DRX VS managed to force another map in the series after a 13-6 win on Fracture.
Lastly, two teams collided on Breeze as the deciding map of the series. Just like the first map, DRX showed another dominant performance on the attacking side. They won 9 rounds and lost 3 to grab the advantage ahead of the second half. Kim "stax" Gu-taek and Yu "BuZz" Byung-chul grabbed 30 kills on the attacking side. The South Korean team finished the last map of the series with another 13-6 win, this time on Breeze. As a result, DRX VS qualified for the playoffs but FPX Esports will now face NORTHEPTION as the last chance.
NORTHEPTION vs XERXIA
The Japanese team picked Split for the opening map of the series. Surprisingly, their attacking performance was below expected. XERXIA had a great defensive effort and they proved it by winning 8 rounds in the first half whereas NORTHEPTION only had 4. Daichi "Derialy" Doi held a 0.06 rating and only grabbed 2 kills in the first half and NORTHEPTION failed to get any contribution from the Japanese Sage. The competition in the second half was head-to-head but because XERXIA had the advantage in the first half, the Thai team closed out the map after 22 rounds, 13-9. Thanachart "Surf" Rungarphajaratsakul finished the game with a 1.25 rating and 20 kills.
XERXIA picked Haven as the second map of the series and just like FPX, they also had the opportunity to finish the series after their map pick. However, the same scenario happened and XERXIA failed to use the opportunity. NORTHEPTION led the first half, winning 8 rounds on the attacking side. The South Korean duo, Kim "Meteor" Tae-O and Cho "JoXJo" Byung-yeon led their team with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Moreover, JoXJo held a 1.48 rating. Daichi "Derialy" Doi joined the South Korean players in the second half and NORTHEPTION won the game with a score of 13-8 and forced another map in the series.
Bind was do-or-die for both sides as it was the end of the road for the loser of the map. As expected, the first half was head-to-head with both teams winning 6 rounds each. Surprisingly, neither team could come on top and the second half also ended in a tie and the game went to overtime. After 2 overtime turns, NORTHEPTION won the series after a very close win on Bind. Meteor stepped up for his team with 27 kills and 9 first bloods on Chamber.
OpTic Gaming vs LOUD
The last game of the day included the latest finalists of VALORANT Masters, OpTic Gaming and LOUD. LOUD picked Ascent and the series began. Both teams had similar performances in the first half and the first 12-rounds ended in a tie, 6-6. However, the scenario was different in the second half. LOUD dominated the game on their map pick and won the opening game, 13-8. Erick "aspas" Santos finished the first map with 24 kills and a 1.48 rating.
OpTic Gaming’s pick for the day was Fracture. The North American representatives started the map strongly on defense. They picked up 8 rounds and took the advantage before switching sides. Jimmy "Marved" Nguyen’s Brimstone came in handy on defense as the Canadian player picked up 16 kills and held a 1.79 rating. Erick "aspas" Santos was LOUD’s best performing player again with 15 kills on his Raze. OpTic’s consistency continued in the second half and they grabbed 5 more rounds to win Fracture, 13-8. Marved finished the game with 23 kills and a 1.48 rating.
The last map of the series was Split and both teams came prepared. LOUD led the first half after winning 7 rounds on defense. It was aspas once again stepping up on Raze with 16 kills and a 1.58 rating. LOUD were ahead for some time, especially in the second half. The game got tense and OpTic tried to keep up with their opponents to keep their hopes alive. The North American team managed to tie the game and forced overtime. After a solid performance in overtime, OpTic Gaming won the last map 16-14 and moved on in the tournament.
The competition will continue tomorrow with very entertaining games ahead. You can find more information on the events page.
