DRX and EDG advance to the VCT Masters Tokyo Playoffs, FUT and T1 are eliminated
Four teams engaged in fierce competition on the final day of the group stage at VCT Masters Tokyo in an effort to claim the final playoff spots. These teams put everything on the line in an intense effort to advance to the VALORANT Masters Tokyo Playoffs:
DRX VS stands strong
The VCT Masters Tokyo first round of eliminations featured DRX VS vs. FUT Esports competing for a place in the playoffs. FUT Esports demonstrated their map mastery on the Turkish team's chosen map, Bind, and secured a flawless first half by taking a 9-3 lead. DRX VS did display some signs of a comeback, but they weren't strong enough to threaten FUT, who won with a score of 13-9.
The game on the second map, Fracture, was much more evenly balanced, with both teams having a chance to bag the map. After the first half ended with a tie, DRX VS was able to win the Pistol and the Round Bonus, which gave them the drive to pursue a victory. With a 13-8 dub, they were able to tie the series.
The Korean team left no room for the EMEA side on the last map, Haven. The match's outcome was essentially predetermined after DRX finished the first half with an almost perfect score of 11-1, and they wasted no time securing their spot in the playoffs. They won the final game 13-4 to win the series 2-1 and send FUT packing.
Throughout the series, all of the DRX VS players had their moments, but Yu "BuZz" Byung-chul unquestionably stood out for the Korean team with his consistent play across all of the maps. BuZz demonstrated his talent and influence in every round with a superb rating of 1.22 and 55 kills. Rb, who secured 13 First Bloods throughout the series and boasted a remarkable First Blood Success Rate of 81%, was another standout performer. The success of DRX VS was largely attributed to their individual efforts, demonstrating both their teamwork and individual strength. As they advance in the VCT Masters Tokyo playoffs and pursue the ultimate victory that is the trophy, the team will rely on the outstanding performances of players like Buzz and Rb.
A new contender joins the fight
In the second and last game of the day, China's EDG competed against Pacific's T1 for a playoff spot in a match that ended up being incredibly one-sided. The Korean team was easily defeated by EDG, which was led by ZmjjKK, as they won 13-4 on Fracture and 13-6 on Haven. With this outcome, T1 leaves the field, while EDG keeps going in hopes to continue demonstrating the strength and potential of Chinese VALORANT at the event.
Throughout the series, EDG exhibited dominance and control, giving T1 little room to mount a comeback. They quickly destroyed the opposition on both maps thanks to their exceptional teamwork, strategy, and individual performances. Particularly, ZmjjKK stood out as a crucial player for EDG, taking the initiative and significantly influencing the results of each round, if 12 First Bloods is not good enough, a K/D of 1.75 and a rating of 1.59 does the job. EDG's outstanding performance showcased the talent and strength the Chinese region brings to the global stage. In contrast, T1 found it difficult to stand their ground in the face of EDG's constant assault.
