Davidp officially benched from G2 Esports
G2 Esports have announced that David "davidp" Prins has been benched, confirming reports from the last few weeks.
Davidp initially joined G2 as a stand-in, but was later made a full part of the roster as G2 won every Ignition Series event in Europe. Heading into First Strike, they were once again the favourites, but fell out in the semifinals to Team Heretics.
In a TwitLonger, Davidp explained that his benching was primarily due to the team searching for a dedicated In-Game Leader, and that he’s looking for new offers in both North America and Europe.
“It’s exactly what they say: it’s harder to stay at the top than it is to reach the top and we will always want to stay at the top, no matter what. This requires ambition and energy which will get put into it, but it also requires adaptation and flexibility at times which might seem shocking. David completed our roster a few months ago and we have seen incredible success together. It has been an emotional few months and we are super thankful for the time with David, but as a team, we came to the conclusion to search for additional options and let him explore as well. We will do all we can to support David with his future and are sure that we’ll meet David on VALORANT servers very soon,” Maik “MaikTurtle" Lӧffler, Manager of G2 Esports VALORANT, said in the official announcement.
Who Davidp’s replacement might be is not yet known, as no announcement has been made and no report has come out. There are certainly plenty of players in the deep European talent pool that could earn the spot, but will any help G2 get back to their prior level of dominance?
G2 Esports is now:
Oscar “m1xwell” Cañellas Colocho Patryk “paTiTek” Fabrowski Jacob “pyth” Mourujärvi Ardis “ardiis” Svarenieks David “Davidp” Prins (Benched)
