What happened to Ninjas in Pyjamas?
Two months ago, Ninjas in Pyjamas announced their entry into the VALORANT scene after re-signing their former Paladins roster. It was a bright start for the team, taking first place in the WaveAUT VALORANT Cup at the end of April. But since then, the team has been looking for a refreshed roster after some unfortunate events took place involving two different players.
On June 16th, 2020, Dylan “DiGeDoG” Chainski made an official statement that he would no longer be a part of the NIP VALORANT roster. The issue that held Chainski back from competing with the team was the fact that he lived in Australia and was unable to travel to Sweden due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This meant that there was no effective way for him to play with the team and therefore he had to step away. Moreso, he wasn’t even able to play scrims with the team, which drew them back even more. He did state that he is still going to pursue a career in VALORANT, so there is hope for this young talent.
As for NIP, this situation takes away one of their core members in DiGeDoG. He was a mainstay on the former Paladins roster who took the World Championships in 2019. What makes matters worse is that Aleks “Alex” Suchev has seemingly disappeared from the team. Through all of this mess, NIP has yet to give an official statement addressing either member. But what we do know is the team that is left is experimenting with roster lineups without Alex. That core team of Malkolm “bonkar” Rench and Leander “Tenner” Aspestran along with coach Erik “Bird’ Sjösten, has been testing different members out trying to find the right pieces to the puzzle. One such player is Niels “luckeRRR” Jasiek who played with the team during the Epulze VALORANT Prodigies tournament. Another major possibility the team has tested is that of Emir “rhyme” Muminovic who played in a majority of recent tournaments as an official stand-in for DiGeGoG. Finally, Pontus “Zyppan” Eek has been playing with the team in tournaments such as the COOLER Cup or the Absolute Masters tournament.
All this has come to a head over the last week after DiGeDoG made his statement. Fans have been waiting patiently for answers from the organization, and NIP is taking their time making sure they have the right roster before they make anything official. At this point, the community just has to wait and see what NIP chooses to do. Until then, we are likely to see a mix of individuals who will get a chance to play for such an esteemed organization. We will see them in the Rise of Titans tournament this upcoming week. Who do you think should play for Ninjas in Pyjamas?
