Should VALORANT be released on consoles?
Since the beginning of Closed Beta, VALORANT has been gaining more and more fans and players. With the full release of the game now on PC, members of the community are asking if VALORANT will have a release on the console as well. Anna “SuperCakes” Donlon answered these questions and more in an interview with Gamespot.
In the interview, Donlon went in-depth with what the development team at Riot Games was doing to have a possible release for the console. Donlon says “We are definitely prototyping that right now. But there's a way to play this game and there's a way to experience this game that we're not entirely sure translates completely to console play.”
With an experience that mirrors other 5v5 shooters, like CS:GO, the dev team may not think that VALORANT is the type of game that should be on console. “We really want Valorant to stand for a certain type of gameplay and a certain type of experience,” Donlon goes on to explain. These are expectations set from the very beginning, and having VALORANT on PS4, Xbox or Switch just might not work. Donlon finally states that “It's not a no for sure, but it definitely wasn't the focus out of the gate. If we were to do it, it'll definitely be delayed.” This last statement does give console players a glimpse of hope.
What do you think? Should Riot make VALORANT compatible with consoles? It may suffer gameplay-wise as the core mechanics could be lackluster. Is VALORANT too highly skilled for consoles? With games like Rainbow Six: Siege and Overwatch thriving on consoles, one may have to ask if it’s worth it for Riot to risk it.
