Evil Geniuses are your VCT 2023 World Champions
At home, before their devoted fans, Evil Geniuses achieved a flawless performance to become the 2023 VALORANT World Champions. Overcoming Paper Rex 3-1 in the Grand Finals, EG secured the title following a remarkable campaign throughout the competition. From nearly missing qualification to rising as a force to be reckoned with after their second-place finish at the Masters Tokyo, EG's journey unfolds as one of the greatest stories in VALORANT's premier championship, solidifying their legacy as true champions.
With scores of 13-10 on Split, 13-5 on Bind, and 13-10 on Lotus, EG only conceded Ascent by 10-13. Delivering an impressive and championship-worthy performance, the duo Alexander "jawgemo" Mor and Max "Demon1" Mazanov dominated from start to finish. Their combined efforts as Duelists/Controllers yielded 164 kills and 29 First Bloods—numbers that are hard to contend with. Across 459 rounds played, Demon1 culminated the competition with the highest rating of 1.26, outshining all players. EG played the second-fewest rounds, next to LOUD (515).
The triumph of EG tonight wasn't solely attributed to a single individual; each player had their shining moments. From Boostio's motivational influence to Ethan's top-tier support, and C0M's commanding Sova, the North American team crafted a true synergy under Potter's leadership.
This marks Evil Geniuses' first title, and what a title it is. The players conclude the 2023 season with the grandest crown. On the other hand, with Jinggg's indefinite departure from the team, this was the last presentation, at least for a while, of the Paper Rex lineup as we know it. From their victory in the Pacific region to their third-place finish in Tokyo and the near-win tonight, PRX has also etched its name in the VALORANT history books as one of the most unique teams in terms of playstyle. Victory didn't come for the WGaming today, but they came close.
