Demon1 wins Champions 2023 MVP award
Evil Geniuses have emerged as the undisputed victors of VCT 2023 - Champions following a dub over Paper Rex in the grand finale. The 3-1 dub saw Evil Geniuses go from zero to hero as the team fell under a ton of scrutiny early in the 2023 VCT season. Yet, the team has shown nothing but progress as the season went on, until they were the ones to lift the trophy on stage in the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.
And one man helped them achieve that this year. Max "Demon1" Mazanov joined EG mid-January in 2023. The 20-year-old, being a rookie to the top level VALORANT scene, emerged as one of the most dangerous players this season. Max showed his prowess at Masters Tokyo earlier this year by being in the top 5 of the best players of the event with at least 300 rounds played. At Champions, he simply became the best player of the event, and it's not even close.
Demon1 puts on a masterclass at Champions to win MVP award
Demon1 was indeed an absolute demon in Los Angeles. Over the course of the event he played 4 different Agents, with his top 3 most-picked being Jett, Chamber, and Astra. He took up the reins of Brimstone when the team faced DRX on Fracture (the only time EG played Fracture) and obviously, he was a demon on Brim as well.
Having played 7 total matches, 21 maps, and 459 rounds, Max scored an unbelievable THESPIKE Rating of 1.26, garnered an ACS of 246, maintained a K/D of 1.39, and had an average damage per round of 166.4. Absolutely sublime numbers for anyone to show for when playing at the highest level of VALORANT against the best teams in the world.
Meanwhile, if we have a look at the runners up to the event, we can see a hefty gap between the players.
LOUD's Cauan "cauanzin" Pereira and Aspas "aspas" Santos attained a rating of 1.16 and 1.14 respectively. In joint-third, Max's teammate Alexander "jawgemo" Mor also attained a rating of 1.14, showing that he was a crucial part of EG's run-up to the trophy at VALORANT Champions.
Demon1 was also named as the runner up Duelist player of the year in Americas and placed fourth in the VCT Americas MVP award in the official VALORANT end of season awards.
