Zora Spear location Tears of the Kingdom
Zora Spears aren’t amazing on their own, even with the Water Warrior trait. But what makes them so valuable is that they’re an essential ingredient in crafting one of the best weapons in TotK. Here's everything you need to know...Returning from Breath of the Wild, the Zora Spear is (funnily enough) part of the Zora set of weapons. Yup, that means it benefits from the Water Warrior regional effect, which doubles the attack power of this spear whenever Link is wet.
Since Water Warrior is easily one of Tears of the Kingdom’s more useful passive weapon abilities, it’s no surprise that so many players want to find a Zora Spear for their inventory,
But oh boy, trust us, the regional effect of the Zora Spear is just the tip… of the spear.
"This spear is a Zora's weapon of choice. It's lighter than it looks due to being made from a special metal and is used by the Zora for both fishing and protecting their domain."
— Hyrule Compendium
The REAL reason you want to find a Zora Spear
With only 6 base damage, Zora Spears aren’t amazing on their own, even with the Water Warrior trait. But what makes them so valuable is that they’re an essential ingredient in crafting one of the best weapons in TotK…
Yep, we’re talking about the legendary Lightscale Trident, former weapon of Zora champion Mipha.
The Lightscale Trident is an absolute beast of a weapon, with 22 base damage and 70 durability, AND that famous Water Warrior trait of Zora weapons. Unfused, it’s already twice as powerful as a Pristine, fully intact Zora Spear from the Depths.
Zora Spear locations
If you’re wondering where to find a Zora Spear, you’ll need to head to Zora’s Domain (shocking, right?).
Within Zora’s Domain, you’ve got three locations that we’d suggest you focus your search:
- Lanayru Great Spring
- Lanayru Wetlands
- Mount Lanayru
You’re pretty much wasting your time if you try to find a Zora Spear anywhere else. The only exception to that is if you’re in the Depths – and even then, you’ll likely only find one if you’re beneath any of these locations (just remember to break at least one Zora Spear before heading to the Depths, if you want to track down a Pristine version).
Here are a few more pointers to help you find Zora Spears even quicker…
Enemies
If you’re lucky, you’ll take out a Lizalfos or two that drop a Zora Spear. They’re not exactly super common, but it’s always worth attacking any Lizalfos you see in Zora’s Domain, just in case.
Great places to find Lizalfos groups that might drop Zora Spears are:
- The entrance to the Upland Zorana Foothill Cave.
- Near the northwest border of Zora’s Domain, by a cliff’s edge.
- North of the Tabahl Woods Well.
Another location worth checking out is the western edge of the bridge that crosses the Bone Pond. You might find a Bokoblin or two there with a Zora Spear for you.
Enemies like Ice Likes can also drop chests with Zora Spears in them if you’re lucky. You tend to find Ice Likes in the Upland Zorana Byroad, Ancient Zora Waterworks, and Tabahl Woods Cave areas.
Pro tip: pin any Ice Like or Lizalfos locations on your map so you can track them down more easily after the next Blood Moon.
Bonus pro tip: pop in a manual save before killing any Lizalfos or Ice Like you come across. If you don’t get a Zora Spear out of the battle, reload your save and try again.
Mired in Muck
Near the Upland Zorana Skyview Tower, you’ll find a quest that rewards you with a Zora Spear. Look for the Zora named Bazz who’s stuck in the muck. Use any water-based weapon or item to wash away the muck and free Bazz, and he’ll give you a Zora Spear as a reward.
3x chests
Three chests in Zora’s Domain have Zora Spears inside, you’ll find them in the following locations:
- Upland Zorana Foothill Cave
- Near Ralis Pond
- Ultria Grotto
In the Upland Zorana Foothill Cave, look out for the reddish rocks near the top left of the cliffside just after the second damp area. Smash the rocks, then use Ascend in the revealed area to shortcut your way to the chest and an easy Zora Spear.
Head to the southwest of Ralis Pond and you’ll find a chest sitting around out in the open with a Zora Spear inside just waiting for you to grab it. This one couldn’t be easier… but we’ll make it easier all the same – head towards these coordinates: 2840, 0194, 0169
For the Ulria Grotto chest, look for the ruins of an old building between the cave entrances. There’s a chest half-buried in the ruins. Use Ultrahand to dig it up and then help yourself to the Zora Spear inside.
From Zora Spear… to Lightscale Trident
The hardest part about getting the Lightscale Trident is finding all the ingredients you need to craft it. But that’s also the great part about it, and why it’s such a top-tier weapon in TotK – you can always pop back and get another one, if you’ve got the ingredients for it.
To get the Lightscale Trident, you’ll first need to follow the Regional Phenomena quest to Zora’s Domain, then clear the Water Temple and restore the area. Once you’ve completed the Sidon of the Zora main quest, head to the store area and chat with Dento about the Lightscale Trident. This begins the Glory of the Zora side quest.
After that, just bring Dento the ingredients and you can get a Lightscale Trident whenever you need! Those ingredients are:
- 1x Zora Spear
- 5x Flint
- 3x Diamonds
Thanks to this guide, you shouldn’t have a lack of Zora Spears to rely on for this crafting project. The real challenge will be getting your hands on enough Diamonds… so here’s a few places you can find them if you haven’t already:
- Caves with Ore Deposits – explore every cave you come across!
- Stone Talus spawn spots – they might drop a Diamond if you’re lucky
- Hyrule Castle
- Jinodok Shrine
- Yomizuk Shrine
- Maoikes Shrine
Or, if you’ve completed the main quest Goron City, you can buy them from the city’s merchant, Gonguron, for 1,000 Rupees per Diamond.
Repairing the Lightscale Trident
While Dento can remake the Lightscale Trident for you, it’s far easier to head to the Eldin Mountains region and drop your damaged trident for a Rock Octorock to eat.
These chameleonic enemies are your best friends really, as they’ll swallow, sparkle, and spit out your weapon fully repaired. The only catch is… this doesn’t work with legendary weapons like the Lightscale Trident…
UNLESS you get crafty. And by that, we mean fuse your nearly busted trident to a regular weapon or shield, then drop it for the Octorock to repair. Then head to Tarrey Town’s general store and talk to Pelison – for 20 Rupees, he’ll remove the trident safely and you’ll have a fully repaired Lightscale Trident, without the faff of gathering all the materials to craft it again in Zora’s Domain.
You’re welcome.
Is it worth the effort?
If you’re savvy enough to find ways to stay wet while using the Zora Sear or the Lightscale Trident then yes, it’s all very worthwhile. We’d suggest keeping a healthy supply of Splashfruit on hand to make use of Water Warrior. That, or use the power you get from Sidon.
